When I was a kid, we found a bunch of eggs and tadpoles in the pond on the Puerto Del Sol golf course, but that was a long time ago.
I'd recommend calling Clark's pet store, they'll probably know since they're locally owned and operated.
With the drop-in program at UNM, do they have a set list of kids, or is it 10 at a time thing so that if you get there and there's space you're good, but if you get there and they're full you have to do something else? Did that make sense?
I grew up in Albuquerque and recently moved back after 10 years elsewhere. In addition to being in my first year of a PhD program in pure mathematics at UNM, I own a small jewelry business, enjoy riding my bike, reading, and watching movies.
