Spinn's-Now Open! And just as good....

Keeping our fingers crossed, my husband and I drove Friday night to Montano and Coors.  We were so happy to see the "open" sign.   The new place was packed.  The hostess said it will be a short wait if we didn't mind.  I thought to myself, "you don't know know long I've been waiting for this."  After about 15 minutes we were seated and ordering.  It wasn't hard as we knew exactly what we wanted.  I've been craving those onion rings for months, twelve to be exact as the waitress reminded us it…See More

Albuquerque's impending bundle of joy

Posted on May 8, 2011 at 12:14am 11 Comments

I’m sitting at home recently when a KOAT teaser comes on.  Shelly Ribando is talking about how she is going to make the “big announcement” about the physical changes that have been concerning some of her viewers.  I felt a little puzzled.  Why the big announcement?  It's obvious she's pregnant.  My mom called it months ago.  My dad, too, noticed that Shelly's face looked "different".  Maybe it was my mom's womanly instincts, or the fact she's given birth to seven…

Heartbreaking Price of Standarized Testing

The student I work with gave me a picture for me yesterday. He had folded it up nicely and put in an envelope, addressing it on the front with my name. I opened it to find a drawing of a boy, tears running down his cheeks. Above it was a string of random letters, crudely drawn. I could make out a few, an "h", an "r", "o", a "y". Phonetically it looked like it spelled "hooray". Most likely he wrote down the few letters he remembers, because unlike many other children his age and younger, he… Continue

Early Morning Obsessions

Posted on March 7, 2009 at 9:00am 3 Comments

It is early morning when I hear it. The distinct sound of a plastic hanger knocking against the wooden bedroom door. I knew to expect this. I had just hoped it wouldn’t happen just as the sunlight was beginning to peak through the blinds. In walks Luna with her eyes barely open, carrying her latest obsession: her new purple dress purchased for her auntie’s wedding.

The night before, I suggested we hang the dress on the door so it would be… Continue

President Luna

Posted on February 5, 2009 at 10:00pm 3 Comments

A little voice interrupts me as I wash dishes, “Mom, I’m the President.”

I look over to see my three year old standing in kitchen, “Hello, President Luna. Nice to meet you.” I receive a lipstick smeared smile as she scampers off to her room wearing her usual attire-camisole and panties. Not quite presidential in appearance but definitely in attitude. The Washington Press would have a field day. The headline reads, "President… Continue
