NMBeek- I second your thanks to Sophie and recommend her reading list if you just can't think of what to read or are going browsing at the library... a little bump for Sophie Jo

Geni -- Dadant sells what they call a "Bottling Bucket Kit" (M01354) which I like because it includes a 5 gallon food-safe plastic pail with a honey gate, a tight fitting cover and three separate filters that fit inside the bucket, 200 micron, 400...

Profile Information

Where I Live:
North Valley
About Me:
Happily retired and enjoying learning about and doing those things I've never been able to do before. Avid reader, hobbiest beekeeper, private pilot, Master Gardener, motorcyclist, stoneware potter and presently learning how to sculpt and draw. People and friends are the important things in life.
Favorite Thing(s) About Albuquerque:
climate and long-time friends, the wonderful warmth of the tri-cultures
Relationship Status:
Married
What I'm Reading:
Usually two or three going at a time, mysteries, sci-fi, action adventure and texts on whatever I'm learning about right now, bees, potting, sculpting, etc. I've joined a couple of online book clubs to broaden my exposure to good books.
What I'm Listening To:
Very eclectic, I like almost everything except Gangsta Rap. Probably listen to classic rock and country the most.
I took up pottery after I retired, just for fun. Here's some examples. I'm working on learning to sculpt and draw now.

Income Taxes and Hummers -- If you gotta have one, it's great to have the other !

Not many folks I know are overjoyed about income tax time. The "Ides of April" tend to not be our favorite time of year. Here in the Duke City, however, we got a little golden tinge to the day. That's the day the hummingbirds return to the Burque and I don't know anyone who can… Continue

Introducing Tim O'Leary

OK, so he is just a dog and a rescue dog on top of that, which is kinda the point here. One of my wonderful companions of many years finally passed on last month. Paca, (yep, she was a rescue dog too and carried the acronym for People's Anti-Cruelty Association as her name), had been… Continue

First "Cut-Out"

I participated in my first “cut-out” this weekend. A “cut-out” is beek slang for removing a colony of bees that have taken up housekeeping in an unwanted location, as in this case, the ceiling of someone’s front porch. Honeybees need dark and dry places to build a nest and make a new… Continue

Hello,

Writing for a friend who has a bee colony every year in his big tree in the front yard (Ridgecrest area). He does not want them as he has small children and dogs, yet he hasn't done anything because he does not want them destroyed. Any ideas on what to do? I saw them today and they seemed very active to me (swarming??). Any assistance would be appreciated....thanks...>Bryan

I am sorry my phone did not work today. Thanks for trying me. The number I hope I gave you was 505-231-7593? I will be down at the Bee Seminar tomorrow.

I saw your discussion on a swarm list. I have a couple of questions. What is a swarm list?
If I get some unwanted bees, do I call a beekeeper to relocate them?

Jerry, do you know if the road from Mora to Angel Fire via Black Lake is paved? I think it's NM434.

I thought I had joined the group but evidently not. Just joined now. My equipment is in the truck and ready. The new hive is painted and will be set up ready to go tomorrow after work. Thanks for adding me to the swarm list.

Saw your comment about Hillsboro. If you ever decide to ride out there, be sure to allot some time to go further west on 152 all the way to Bayard (there's gas in Bayard). That is a great motorcycle road if you like twisties!

Thanks for organizing that meeting, and thanks for inviting me. I learned a lot and I am even more excited to get started than before. I'm working on the husband. I may have him semi convinced to let me go for it in the back yard. Maybe I can make beekeeping a "Thing" at the b&b.
