"The hullabaloo at the Corrales Village Council meeting says more about the historical ignorance of those in attendance than anything else. New Mexico is a tri-cultural state and is proud of that. The symbol on our State flag is native american and,…"

"Hi Cin. How are you doing? I haven't seen you around lately but then I haven't been hanging out much with the riding groups ... mostly been lone wolfing it and enjoying myself.   What can I help you with?"

Where I Live:
North Valley
About Me:
Happily retired and enjoying learning about and doing those things I've never been able to do before. Avid reader, hobbiest beekeeper, private pilot, Master Gardener, motorcyclist, stoneware potter and presently learning how to sculpt and draw. People and friends are the important things in life.
Favorite Thing(s) About Albuquerque:
climate and long-time friends, the wonderful warmth of the tri-cultures
What I'm Reading:
Usually two or three going at a time, mysteries, sci-fi, action adventure and texts on whatever I'm learning about right now, bees, potting, sculpting, etc. I've joined a couple of online book clubs to broaden my exposure to good books.
I took up pottery after I retired, just for fun. Here's some examples. I'm working on learning to sculpt and draw now.

Income Taxes and Hummers -- If you gotta have one, it's great to have the other !

Posted on April 17, 2009 at 2:22pm 2 Comments

Not many folks I know are overjoyed about income tax time. The "Ides of April" tend to not be our favorite time of year. Here in the Duke City, however, we got a little golden tinge to the day. That's the day the hummingbirds return to the Burque and I don't know anyone who can watch a hummer for very long without smiling. What a great way to blow away the "doin' your taxes blues" than sittin' on the porch with your honey, a glass of your… Continue

Introducing Tim O'Leary

OK, so he is just a dog and a rescue dog on top of that, which is kinda the point here. One of my wonderful companions of many years finally passed on last month. Paca, (yep, she was a rescue dog too and carried the acronym for People's Anti-Cruelty Association as her name), had been a great friend for about 15 years. When she passed on last month my other dog, Daisy, became increasingly lonely and subdued. I think I did too. It was… Continue

First "Cut-Out"

Posted on March 24, 2008 at 10:07am 5 Comments

I participated in my first “cut-out” this weekend. A “cut-out” is beek slang for removing a colony of bees that have taken up housekeeping in an unwanted location, as in this case, the ceiling of someone’s front porch. Honeybees need dark and dry places to build a nest and make a new colony and the inside of our frame-stucco walls and ceilings are almost ideal for their needs. Scout bees are truly amazing in their ability to find the smallest… Continue

Hello,

Writing for a friend who has a bee colony every year in his big tree in the front yard (Ridgecrest area). He does not want them as he has small children and dogs, yet he hasn't done anything because he does not want them destroyed. Any ideas on what to do? I saw them today and they seemed very active to me (swarming??). Any assistance would be appreciated....thanks...>Bryan

Thanks for organizing that meeting, and thanks for inviting me. I learned a lot and I am even more excited to get started than before. I'm working on the husband. I may have him semi convinced to let me go for it in the back yard. Maybe I can make beekeeping a "Thing" at the b&b.

I showed your profile to my husband, and he was excited about a chance to meet you, and pick your brain. He loves to fly, and grew up next to a small municipal airport (Very very small).

Hi, we just moved to the state last spring, and bought our first home. I would love to pester you a bit about gardening, and how to get started. My husband is very enthusiastic about starting our garden this spring, and is very excited about raised beds.
