Immature Robin?

Saw a robin this morning (mid-January) with a gray head and a pale orange breast that became spotted as it went back toward the tail. In the company of two other female robins. Is this a not-quite-mature female at this time of year?See More

"I bet your ID is good. Once they're mature, Yellow-rump winter plumage is not as drab as many/most other warblers. I've seen quite colorful individuals in January."

Yellow-rumped Warbler

I had a nice prolonged look at a Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon’s, with a very yellow throat, side patches, rump, no yellow crown. My bird matches perfectly the illustrations for a breeding (May - Aug) adult female. But it’s December! What else might I be looking at?See More

October fledgling!

I got a real surprise this morning when I saw a Canyon Towhee feeding a fledgling on the back porch. I've read they can produce up to three broods a year, but imid-late October seems awfully late for fledglings. Is it?See More

"These pages need a "like!" button, too :) I'm getting out more these days (no mosquitos!), so maybe I'll see your mystery bird in the Country Club area."

"Thanks, Bosque Bill. I thought the pale yellow throat might be transitional, but the complete eye ring did me in!"
