"I'm on Verizon, but I was looking into Sprint at one point and decided against them based on reported issues with coverage around the city. My guess is that Sprint and the location of its towers are your most likely culprit."

Local experience with Credo/Sprint?

I'm curious about anybody's experience with Credo cellphone service (which uses the Sprint network). I live in the "Near North Valley," which seems to be a fringe zone for Sprint.  I have had chronic (yet intermittent) problems with phone calls, texting, and web/email service on my phone, at home and around town.  I'm trying to decipher whether it's the phone itself--an LG Optimus, the Sprint network, or something specific to Credo service. There's a lot to like about Credo, which is affiliated…See More

How American is the NFL?

How American is the NFL? Time to get right!

Spending a Sunday afternoon watching that most American of sports—football—might lead one to wonder how the subversive, divisive forces of diversity are subtly working their way into the minds of patriotic Americans.

And of course, I’m talking about real football here, not that foreign imitation that’s played with—of all things—a round ball, and doesn’t even provide sufficient breaks for a decent beer commercial. That round ball… Continue

True “Traitors”

Posted on November 19, 2010 at 12:30pm 0 Comments

Consider: if there is a past and a future, there must be something in between. This deceptively simple truism invokes—but does not betray—the essence of Tricklock Company’s new production, “Traitors,” now playing at UNM’s Theatre X.

Kristen Simpson’s original script weaves historical figures such as Judas Iscariot, Benedict Arnold, and Joseph McCarthy into a masterful madcap, skillfully delivered by Director Summer Olson. Like the… Continue

A referendum it ain't

I've heard several people recently say that they'll vote for Susana Martinez because Bill Richardson was a crook. I completely understand the urge to punish the Democratic Party for the sins of Bill, in the hope that it will motivate the Dems to find, nominate, and support candidates who are not ethically challenged in the way that some recent Dems have been. But that logic is flawed.

Guilt by association is a bad basis for an important decision. While Denish stood with Richardson… Continue

A young man prepares to go off to war. He says goodbye and promises to write his mother. The man—still just a boy--packs up his dreams, his ideals, his naïveté, and in this case, his violin, and boards the train that will take him into the theatre of war, with its absurdities, its bloody comedy, and its way of pushing its participants to the extremes of their individual humanity. It’s a scene that has been acted out countless times around the world in the past century, and it is brought now to… Continue

Adelita, it was down in Barelas! (Yes, Bekkah is a sweetheart, and we seem to have some inexplicable geographic karma.) There is something every Sunday eve at the Filling Station . . . next blues jam should be the 4th Sunday in August. I'll let you know if I go!

Richard, I'm such a dork. Went to go see you play on Sunday, but for some weird reason I had it in my head you were playing at the old gas station on Mountain Rd. -the one that's a coffee joint. There was a really sweet girl in the house behind the coffee place who was outside and she said you were her boss! Small world.

Really wanted to hear you guys. Been needing a good dose of live blues. Plus, now that my daughter is learning to play guitar, I like to take her to listen to live music when I can. Next time!

Hey Richard. Thanks again for playing on Friday. You guys rocked. Give me a call soon if you haven't already picked up your stuff. You've got my business card.

Richard - you are too awesome for words!

here's the schedule thus far:
5:00 - doors open, Aaron Lewis to play until approx. 6pm
6:00 - burning moonlight to play until approx. 7:30
7:30 - Lousy Robot to play until ...

I'm being flexible with the music schedule because I'm still learning Verb as a venue, and I never know what challenges might show up when playing in a gallery space.

In addition to the music, we're also being sponsored with beer from Marble Brewery, and some of the DCF foodies are bringing tasty treats for people to munch on. We're setting up the art thursday, and friday afternoon will be the set up of the food and such. I'm sure you'll be able to come in early on friday and set up your equipment, but I will verify how early that might be.

THANKS RICHARD!!
