no flu shot for me. I am terrified of needles. I had a flu shot once when they first became the rage & promptly got sick. I am intellectually willing to concede the fact that I was most likely getting sick to begin with when I got the shot but you...

Dave's memorial was a very moving event for me, as I'm sure it was to all of the other folks there. It was very cool to look around the crowded El Ray & see the size of the crowd. They were each there for one reason & one reason only - they loved Dave!

What a gap he is going to leave in the ABQ music scene! Not to mention the personal side of the loss I feel. I recon I'll miss him forever. I never saw Dave in a crappy mood. I never saw him not excited when he watched some music. The first time I met him was on a blue cruise way out in the middle of the ocean;, a long way from our desert & a guy wanders past me wearing a Sultans t-shirt. Being the owner of such a shirt myself as well as a shameless Sultans groupie I am somewhat ashamed to admit that i tackled the guy demanding to know all of the details re: the shirt. I let him up when he convinced me he was Dave Denny, THE Dave Denny, no shit. the author of many a musical travel for me, the total voice of the blues here in abq, a true idol & the only thing that came out of my mouth (yes, the one i would kiss my mother with if she were still kissable) was " Ohh mah gawd, I thought you were tall & white with some kind of blond hair". gawd, I felt like an idiot. An invisible idiot, if I could just pull it off. But, no, There we were face-to-face. He laughed & told me "everybody does". What a kind & gentle individual he was.
His is a big big loss.

Bloggin . . . . got my chips cashed in

Ok. Apologies to The Dead.
It all started when I got the big idea that I would have my own personal blog page where I could rant about whatever I wanted, post pictures, comments, etc. So I did what I usually do & that is go hawg wild before investigating the endeavor. I consider instructions a sourc of last resort.
I'll try to keep it brief. I took the advice of Dale, Jr & went godaddy.com. Before I knew it I was the proud owner of not only one, but two domains. One of them was a spellin… Continue

The 10:30am Railrunner to Santa Fe

Yes! Yes! We were on it. And it was great! Sure, we did go r-e-a-l-l-y slow at one point, but the views were more than worth it. We weren't on any time limits or job deadlines so we didn't care. Commuters grumbled but did they really expect to get there on time the first day? The very first trip of the day was worse than ours from what I understand.

The new snow really made the view incredible. We were just a few feet from the traffic on the slushy highway but it was like being in a different w… Continue

The long put off project

I want a grandbaby. That is no secret. Even folks that don't know me know I want a grandbaby. I see babies everywhere & want them. My eyes glaze over. I can't exactly explain it but it is like what I have seen other women go through when one day they see a baby somewhere & suddenly have to have a baby. Right then. Usually the women are a lot younger than I am but I suddenly truly understood what they had been saying. My good friend had a baby last year but that baby's grandmother hasn't… Continue

Greetings Don Schrader Fans and Friends!

Have you noticed that for the last few days we have been a "featured group"? See: http://www.dukecityfix.com/groups

I do not know how long it will last, but now would be a fitting time to share your Don Schrader stories by starting a new thread or responding to one that I got going.

I for one am hungry for Schrader stories.

Be Well.

Thanks Cathray! She got some of the facts wrong. We're not living with grandma but in her home. We decided to relocate to NM years ago and were working on the move. We expected to do it in 2012 not this soon. But with my grandmother's death, etc, here we are and thank god!!!! The rest of the article was good. I'm not that much of a hard ass but after working in the Silicon Valley they don't give you much time for anything but action.

How are you doing? I see that Tom is trying to put together another bowling event. I hope we get to see you again!!!

I hear you. I had BCBS when I was self-employed several years ago. Costs kept escalating. Now I have it through my employer, though my employer has changed health insurance every year which often means I have to change docs every year (the plans supported Pres docs one year, Lovelace the next, etc.). So far BCBS is good, and I hope to get a doc I can keep for awhile. The stress of changing every year is insane.

Huh, you have BCBS too? Wonder why she's not on my plan. I've got the Blue Card plan since my employer is in Mississippi, so maybe that's the difference. My top contender is Timothy Grenemeyer right now.

Thank you! Unfortunately, I did another search on BCBS and she isn't listed. Grrrrr. But I've noticed a couple of other docs on DCF that look promising. Glad you have a doc you like that makes you feel listened to! That's so important!

Alison, are you still a fan of Dr. Laura Stern? I have had a horrible experience (or 2 or 3) with my current doc and need to make a switch. She is one of those I am considering. What do you like about her? What if anything, DON'T you like? Thanks!

Hey. I had lunch at the Range on Wyoming today. Do you know if Kyle did the mosaic work on the fireplace there? It was stunning.

How are (did?) you enjoy the Annie Prouxl books? I read a collection of short stories as research for my senior honors thesis this past semester and was blown away. She's certainly on the top of my favorites list.

Wait a minute ... that's MY handle! I hope your friend is worthy of the moniker. Tattoo? I assume that would be a tattoo of Grumpy the dwarf? Personally I'm surprised I've made it this far in life without getting the Dopey tattoo, but that's another story.

Cathyray...thanks for the note about the Lebowskis. I'll catch up tomorrow - Sunday. April was worse than expected. Put 3,000 miles on a rental car and was gone for 10 days. Went all the way out to California at one point during the trip. It's taken me almost a week to catch up. I will be caught up for sure by the end of tomorrow. And then....I absolutely promise to be on the ball with the Fix and the Lebowski group. Whew! (ha ha)
