Eschew Obfuscation

Profile Information

Where I Live:
Burque-Alta Monte
About Me:
After a childhood in Northern NM, I spent my most formative years on the gridly streets of ABQ. I left in '94 or so, a college drop-out, off to seek my fortune.

"Fortune" found, I am moving back home after 14 years away -- bringing a husband and some pets and a whole new appreciation for my hometown. It's oddly comforting to be back.
Favorite Thing(s) About Albuquerque:
Some of my old faves are gone, I'm sure they'll be replaced by new ones. So far: Blakes, proximity to the Jemez Mts, the fact that "across town" may seem so far but Tramway to Unser is like 10-15 minutes or something. Los Poblanos Organics, summer thunderstorms, fall sunsets
What I'm Reading:
George RR Martin, books about China, books about crocheting/knitting

One of the best and most surprising effects of the election of Barack Obama has been an igniting in me to remain active in local and national politics. There is no excuse for apathy and passivity at this point. I will no longer sit idly by while a government who is accountable to its citizenry acts in opposition to the will of the people. I will learn/teach myself, with brute force if necessary, how to be a truly participatory citizen in a participatory democracy. I'm thankful that we have the… Continue

Boycotting Cinemark/Century and Blake's Lotaburger for support of Prop8

The Cinemark CEO gave approx $10K to support the passage of Prop8. Cinemark owns nearly all the theaters in Albuquerque. I don't care. Until the company recognizes what they have done and corrects it, I will not patronize their theaters. Here is the statement I sent them on their form for contact.

Based on the news that the CEO of Cinemark has donated approximately $10,000 to support the passage of the discriminatory… Continue

International Workers: Dance Around the May Pole for the good of your maidens and your sheep!

Posted on May 1, 2008 at 8:53am 3 Comments

Today is May Day. May Day is celebratable for a number of reasons, the first being that it's 2 months that we're here in Albuquerque and we haven't had to get "reglar" jobs yet!!!

Since I get most* of my info from Wiki and anyone reading this knows how to click, I will only mention a couple hi-lites:

Beltane is the exact opposite of samhain on the calendar. In Ireland in the middle ages it was referred to as Céad Shamhain.… Continue

OK, I'm not the most participatory Fixer here, and I haven't got a photo up, or many blog posts or blah blah blah. But I took a look at the events and saw something I wanted to do and clicked on it and it was added to my iCal. Now, here's the part where I yell:

ps. the event I liked was the campus…

Inauguration Day

We have been here for a month now. I don't know if B is, but I'm getting used to the dry. It's harsher, in a way, than NV, because it's colder. I think coming in March was good, because he experiences one of the few weather unpleasantnesses right off the bat in the spring winds.

Everyone seems to be getting adjusted. Poor Merlin, those first few days with the burrs were awful. But now he's used to biting it out of his paw.

Hey There Yes I sure did! What I found out was that most crocheters dont read patterns....its intuitive. I am working away on my wonderful granny squares. I would be more than happy to show you what I know.

(The only horde Saami ancestors ever had were their reindeer, though.)

Yeah, I was ripped on July 4th a few years ago & saw McCullough on Charlie Rose & I literally staggered over to my computer and ordered it from Amazon, cuz I knew I wouldn't remember the details the next day. So glad I did.

Strangely, I tried out his bio of Teddy Roosevelt's early life & was criminally bored by it & didn't even try to finish. I think it was the subject matter, though. 300 pages about a spoiled rich kid who liked shooting things wasn't my cup of tea. But again JA is good reading!

After all, what is a Turkik Horde but One Big Union? (Don't tell my buddies in the U that I said that.)

That John Adams that you're reading-- is it the McCullough biography? One of the best books I've ever read, I think, John Adams by David McC. Definitely gave me a more more developed, historical, level-headed foundation for my general & life-long question of "What the hell happened?"

Well, best of luck! I believe I saw a few places round my neighborhood that were up for rent. So just driving around the area might get you a few more leads.
