Paul Secord, Albuquerque Deco and Pueblo at Bookworks

April 7, 2012 from 3pm to 4:30pm
Albuquerque's response to Modernism--the architectural avant-garde of the first half of the 20th century, of which the Art Deco movement of the 1920s and 1930s is an important component--was complex and varied. The growing city looked to the new as well as the mythic past characterized by the Santa Fe style. The result was rarely restricted to one cultural tradition. Influences include forms and motifs from a variety of intermixed cultural and social collisions. The result can be sophisticated,…See More

Thanks to a post on Forgotten Albuquerque Blog, and the comments by a Tom, I was able to put google to use to find this neat pretty high resolution scan of a Augustus Koch Albuquerque birds eye Map.

Barelas Acequia hunting,

Posted on March 10, 2009 at 7:42pm 12 Comments

At the request of a friend, im reposting a post I made to the Albuquerque Urban Exploring blog (abq_urbex)

I plan to continue the hunt and I will of course post more photos.

So as of my last posting about the seemingly boring subject of hunting for the the Barelas Acequia/Creek/Ditch, and any possible tunnels that may be involved, I have come across some new information,… Continue

I voted against the bond/plan i continue to oppose the stupid plan, to turn these major downtown and freeway feeding arteries into 2 lane, rage driver filled, quagmires of pollution! Mark my words this will be bad, and when they do their monthly closing of central it will be even worse.

Really enjoyed reading the article in the Alibi about you today. I never knew there was a name for it, but I've done my share of urbex in the past!
I'll check out your site and flickr.

Fellow NM Photographer!
Just a quick note to invite you to Karl Koenig's opening at the Inpost Art Space (at the Outpost Performance Space, 210 Yale SE) this coming Friday evening, 5-8. Karl is a talented photographer who makes images mostly of nature and architecture, the world round. The show will focus on his large format gumoil photographs, a process that he pioneered himself about 20 years ago. The prints are hand pigmented, resulting in amazingly vibrant photographs with a wondrous, almost catastrophic fairy tale quality. I find them highly affecting and unique.

My fellow curator Rob Thalmann and I plan to focus heavily on local photography during our 2 year term there at the Outpost, and this is just the tip of the iceberg for us. Maybe we could even do a DCF photographer's group show there?

Come see the show on the 5th!
