David Francey at Outpost Performance Space

June 4, 2013 from 7:30pm to 10pm
Scottish-born Canadian David Francey is recognized as one of today’s finest singer-songwriters. A three-time JUNO Award winner, Francey's wry humor and astute observations, combined with his openhearted singing style, have earned him a loyal following. The Toronto Star called him "one of Canada's most revered folk poets and singers… [His songs] are small and beautifully crafted pieces of work that have made Francey both a folk festival favorite and something of a latter-day Canadian poet…See More

Joy Kills Sorrow at Low Spirits

May 29, 2013 from 8pm to 10pm
Joy Kills Sorrow combines the virtuoso musicianship of traditional bluegrass with songwriting that touches on contemporary life and love with humor, intelligence and wit. The bold, young, Boston-based string band keeps a foot firmly planted in bluegrass roots—the band's name is a play on the call letters of the Indiana radio station that broadcast the Monroe Brothers in the 1930s—while the quintet's influences from the worlds of jazz, pop, swing and rock are clearly felt in its polished…See More

Birds of Chicago at Outpost Performance Space

June 6, 2013 from 7:30pm to 10pm
Birds of Chicago is a collective based around JT Nero (JT and the Clouds) and Allison Russell (Po' Girl), who have emerged as two of the most compelling new voices in North American Roots music. Nero's fractured country-soul voice wrapped in Russell's silver and gold tones is a fine thing. Not too perfect, not at all saccharine, you'll hear echoes of mountain gospel, street corner doo-wop, and classic soul.See More

David Bromberg at South Broadway Cultural Center

May 2, 2013 from 7:30pm to 10pm
For years, David Bromberg earned a living as a New York studio musician, playing in sessions with a Who’s Who of folk and rock and roll greats, including Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson. His own albums, including "Demon in Disguise" and "How Late'll Ya Play ’Til," grabbed him a major audience, and his live performances won him fans for life. His original songs are clever, funny, and often profound, and the depth of his knowledge of traditional folk and blues is staggering.See More

About Me:
I started AMP Concerts to expand the musical opportunities in Albuquerque. We specialize in world, folk, acoustic and Americana music, but ultimately present what we think is interesting. We run a monthly acoustic music series at the Windchime Champagne Gallery downtown, as well as regular shows in venues like Puccini's Golden West Saloon and theaters such as the Lobo, KiMo, El Rey and National Hispanic Cultural Center. We also produce ¡Globalquerque! - New Mexico's Annual Celebration of World Music and Culture every September. Check out our web site to see what is going on!

Neal, I just love the diversity of shows you bring to Albuquerque. I saw Jack Williams at the Lomas Tramway Library a few weeks back, and saw Laurie Anderson the last time she was at the Kimo,...WOW! Thanks!

I've made you (along with a number of other musically connected people) an administrator in the Music Lounge group. I figured since I'm not very active, I might as well pass the torch to people who are.

We have mentioned a couple of AMP promoted concerts on ABQ on the Cheap. Nice thing you're doing for music in the community!

I'll be sure to stop by and say hello next time. I left NHCC around 5:15ish - just as the rain starting really coming down...

Neal - we must have crossed paths on Friday! I had a meeting in the NHCC and walked through the courtyard as two men were setting up for the Hassan Hakmoun show. Too bad there is no way for DCFixers to identify each other from afar...

Thanks for bring such good and varied music to Albuquerque!

Neal,

The show last night was great! And the venue was beautiful. We're looking forward to Lila Downs.
