I'm glad to see this lively discussion about the health care issue. I have a blog at http://rhondaracerrepublicanranter.blogspot.com that I invite everyone to read. I'm most distressed at the possibility of this thing going forward. I fear once peop…

Thank You for your post! I love your profile, you sound like a very interesting person! I checked out the link you gave me, and encourage you to post it in the group. I think others would also enjoy it. An amateur radio buff ? Cool ! I grew up with CB radios and have lots of stories to tell about that. I'm a big cat lover although someone in particular won't let me have them. Bummer ! So we have 2 cockatiels who think they are permanently attached to us. They think that they have to be with Mommy and Daddy everywhere we go, and if they don't get their way they literally scream at us..... especially Daddy's little boy Clyde! Poor daddy can't even go to the bathroom without Clyde either screaming for daddy, or getting down on the floor and finding him. FOR REAL ! I love your pictures too ! You are a good photographer !

Cool, thanks for letting me know. I'm not familiar with these clubs, so I'll try to stop by and say hello. I'll pass this event on to some other local hams I know who might be interested as well.

I went to the Duke City Hamfest last fall. Unfortunately I don't have much time for this hobby at present, but I just moved and have much better facilities now for setting up my radios and putting up some antennas.

Thanks for the kind words! I think we should all adopt as many customers as we can. Ours is a world of relationships and we can always use more friends. Glad I could help Richard.

Hi Patricia,
Thanks for getting me diverted from the task at hand with all of this! "Save" works wonders, doesn't it? Love your memory--Albuquerque--The Good Old Days. I'm surprised at how much I'd forgotten. Bet there's so much more--

Profile Information

Where I Live:
Northeast Heights, Albuquerque
About Me:
I'm a writer, an electronics nut, and a music lover (I'm talking REAL music --- not some of the stuff on radio these days!) I recently finished writing a mystery novel loosely based on the real-life mystery of who killed Cricket Coogler in 1949 in the Las Cruces area. I belong to SouthWest Writers and Sisters In Crime. I have a wonderful family which includes a very supportive husband, and a beautiful, talented daughter. I'm a photography buff and drive everyone crazy snapping their pictures (most especially, my poor cat!) Oh, yes. I'm also an active amateur radio operator and belong to several amateur radio groups in town.
Favorite Thing(s) About Albuquerque:
It's the best all-around climate I've seen. I love the mountains and the blue, blue sky. I like being able to see for miles in all directions. I like the "energy" that's present here.
Relationship Status:
Married
My Website:
http://savannahscotts.wordpress.com/
What I'm Reading:
Currently I'm rereading all the Tony Hillerman Joe Leaphorn/Jim Chee series, as well as the collection by Michael McGarrity.
What I'm Listening To:
XM Radio is my favorite for just good music with no talk. I have a huge CD collection with lots of variety and I pick what I'm in the mood for at the moment (which changes frequently.)

Albuquerque - The Good Old Days - Chapter Two

By the time 1953 rolled around, lots of things had changed. For one thing, we weren't "out in the sticks" anymore (at least we had paved streets and a corner grocery store at San Mateo and Haines.) Another thing had happened. Albuquerque made drastic changes in the way the city streets were laid out.

Okay, I don't mean they dug them all up and put them someplace else. What they did was adopt a grid system whereby the city would be split into four quarters. Previously, anything north of… Continue

Albuquerque - The Good Old Days

I'm sure the very young grow weary of hearing about the "good old days" in whatever context it's offered. Well, I'm sorry, but I'm going to do it anyway. Sometimes folks need to know what came before and what things were like before they arrived on the scene.

My family moved here in 1951, just a couple of months before I was to begin the seventh grade. We arrived on June 25 in the middle of a heat wave. The daytime temperatures rose to 105 degrees every day for two weeks. We thought we had died… Continue
