Hi Jim, your story is timely because on Father's Day we sitting at our table eating and noticed a small covey of really tiny,- just out of the nest- gambil quils coming across our patio. The main male in our yard, Big Guy, hopped up onto the fence...
My friend I work with came in to telling me a story yesterday. He and his wife were sitting on their back patio having dinner. A Roadrunner came sneaking up in their back yard, jumped up on their block wall. Ran along the top of the wall and then ...

Where I Live:
Corrales Heights, Rio Rancho
About Me:
i am the self appointed expert on the state bird! having kept a journal on the pair that live in my yard for the last 3 years (they have claimed our land since before we lived here) and i have taken over 14,000 images of the birds. the photos you see are real, not photo shopped. he's "big guy" the senior male bird on the property.

People have asked me about my motivation for choosing this subject and making the dedication to study a bird for the last 3 years. Losing a parent caused me to look Right now, for time is fleeting.

As my dear friend Anna says about The Roadrunner Project, "you didn't choose the birds, the birds chose you to tell their story".

Education is a part of this project and I have made myself available to schools, librarys and any area where there are people who want to learn more about this wonderful and stately bird of ours.

i feel blessed to live in New Mexico and the roadrunners are part of my connection to this land.

New Images from The Roadrunner Project

Are on display at the M Cafe at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History. You can go in their own entrance on the north side of the building (no museum admission is required). I have 9 new images in this 22 image show. This show will be up through the end of October.

And the M Cafe has good food too!

I've seen no roadrunners since April, and toads are running amuck. No problems, since I like toads as much as roadrunners, but I'd like to see some balance.

Thanks! I actually do love roadrunners - I used to live and Arizona and would see them on my desert treks out there. They are such cool birds...

Hiya RRLady! It's good to hear from you and I'm glad you like it (if you click on it you'll go to my Flickr page and can download the big sizes and use it if you'd like).

Things are very hectic for us since we're working hard to get three units ready to deploy to Iraq this year and we have one coming back from Afghanistan. I only get a chance to photograph soldiers and not much time for that these days. Things will slow down a lot for me next year when I retire and I'm gonna waste lots of film (j/k... I shoot digital) running around the state. I'll feed you any roadrunner shots I get ;-)

Cool! They are now busy mating and nest building. Be sure not to trim bushes in spring without first checking for nests!
