GLBTQ Community Center!

There is a long and ongoing disucussion about where the GLBTQ community can call "home" in Albuquerque. Is it a local bar, or maybe a welcoming church, maybe an informal gathering in a restaurant? Well here's an opportunity to discuss and maybe get some traction for a center that might just benefit a whole lot of people. Why not join in the discussion and maybe its planning and development? The organizers write:Join us in preliminary discussions about what our Community Center would look and…See More

New Mexico Gay Men's Chorus: A question and an answer

We were recently asked...Why does the name of your chorus say "Gay Men's"?Why would a chorus base itself on sexual orientation? Well, here's why...Gay and Lesbian choruses began forming over 35 years ago. The San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, the first with “gay” in its title, was founded in 1978 (the Stonewall Chorale of New York City was founded in 1977) and from this foundation we continue to grow both nationally and internationally. Many gay men’s choruses across the country, some founded in…See More

Events, Please

Hi everyone -please remember that if you happen to see or hear about an event you think the LBGTQ community may be interested in post it here.  I suggest that posting be done a week or two beforehand so we can make plans to attend.  And if you'd like to take it one step further - every member can use the DCF calendar for posting.  If you haven't used it already, its easy and if you make a mistake you can always go back and change the information.  If you do calendar I suggest keeping the…See More

Rocky Horror Picture Show

Posted on October 23, 2011 at 9:30pm 3 Comments

Pride and Equality Magazine hosted "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" this weekend.  Originally the film, which played at the Guild Theater, was to run on Friday and Saturday (10/21-22) nights only but due to an overwhelming response they added a third viewing on Sunday (10/23).  When the film was announced I dutifully purchased my ticktet along with many other Rocky lovers.  I don't actually remember when the last regular showing of Rocky occurred in Albuquerque or in what theater but I do…

Cafe Lush

Posted on August 18, 2011 at 12:51am 2 Comments

While running endless errands during work I found a new little hole in the wall.  The food is great, service is fantastic, and the prices beat most restaurant in town.

Entrees range from $5.95 to $8.95.

And they have an espresso bar with trained baristas.  WOW!

It's Cafe Lush.

They are open Monday to Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  They will soon be open on Saturday and maybe even Sunday, assuming the staff doesn't…

Like Magic?

Posted on July 10, 2011 at 11:03pm 0 Comments

While roaming around Nob Hill and looking for something different, something new I found a tiny hole in the wall with a fun show.  I found a magic show.  Who knew we had a venue for live magic shows in town?  I didn't.

I've gone to three shows there and at $10 or so dollars its a good way to spend an hour and a half.  And the plus is these are really friendly folk! Parking is a challenge though - it is Nob Hill afterall.  The shows I've been to started at 7:00 p.m. and that…

Pridefest 2011

Posted on May 31, 2011 at 2:49pm 0 Comments

Pridefest throughout New Mexico is more than gay and lesbian people celebrating who we are as persons.  It asks people who are not gay or lesbian to be more than tolerant.  It calls for acceptance, which is both a civil right and a human right.  And with that its time to prepare for Pride in New Mexico!

With a sizable gay and lesbian population and a scenic setting at the base of the soaring Sandia Mountains, Albuquerque has become one of the more gay-popular destinations in…

Hi and thank you for the welcome!  Yes, BLACK LOTUS is very LBGTQ and I strongly encourage the community to attend.  The test run will be 2/29 and as it grows i'd like to promote a benefit for HIV/AIDs treatment and research.  I hope to see ya'll at the show!

Dear Vince, Thank you for inviting me (despite my Luddite proclivities). I guess I should concede that I don't get to sit near Noel Coward at London dinner parties anymore and should instead accede to being in the 21st century. Tall Paul, I see, has attached his photo to his profile. How would I do that with my own?  —Wilfrid
