Before Words Afire's 10th Anniversary
came matchmaking----writers in UNM's MFA for dramatic writing were partnered with directors. Was it love at first sight? I don't know, but during their ten-minute youtube interviews with Chloe Cousin, the rapport between director and writer for each of the five works being showcased this year was palpable.

One place that my husband and I love to go to get great food is El Paisa. It is located at 820 Bridge SW. They serve Mexican food such as burritos, tacos and tortas. Before El Paisa became a restaurant it started as a cart that the owner would sell burritos out of. I personally really like their chile relleno burritos and their carne asada tacos. My husband's fav is the menudo (I can't stand the stuff but he is weird like that). The food is… Continue

May Day is almost here. The trees are leafed out, pollen is blowing in the wind and flowers are unfurling everywhere. I just planted a 4-in-1 apple tree in my backyard and it reminded me of something my mother mentioned. She has noticed the trees in the local parks that have plaques underneath them. Many of these are memorials to loved ones. With the city's stately elms

I ran across a tidy little clip reel of Bugs Bunny's "Albuquerque" quotes. I have no idea if it's comprehensive, nor when the individual scenes date from, but I began to wonder if this could have been the first popular culture reference point for the Duke City. I mean, since the cartoon began in the 40's and seemingly these likely date from the 60's or 70's at the latest, what could have come… Continue

I was still slathering a very itchy new tattoo on my forearm with lotion--a tattoo I'd been lucky enough to get from Serena Lander
in Suzanne Sbarge

This is National Poetry Month. The Alibi did a nice piece
on it, highlighting four local poets. I might mention that 3 of the 4 have appeared here on The Sunday Poem (Richard Oyama, Greta Pullen, and Adam Rubenstein) as well as Alibi Arts/Lit Editor Erin Adair-Hodges who authored the piece. The Alibi's web page also features a… Continue

and it is called
the the Zombie Cafe so how could I resist.

On Friday I had a brilliant idea that my husband and I should go bike riding the next morning with some family. It had been raining on Friday so I wasn't sure if it was going to pan out but it sounded like so much fun. Saturday morning came and it was still sprinkling so we decided to wait until about 10:30 to head out. By that time it was perfect, still overcast but the rain had stopped and the clouds were covering the sun keeping it nice and cool. We decided to hit the… Continue
