Recovery Cat 4.9.2011

Single locusts are quiet, meditative, sessile things, but when locusts are added to other locusts, they become excited, change color, undergo spectacular endocrine revisions, and intensify their activity until, when there are enough of them packed shouloder to shoulder, they vibrate and… Continue

Look Both Ways. The life you save may be my own.

I just missed being killed while riding my bike. That’s not an exaggeration. I was riding westbound on Constitution in the bike lane (around 9:30am, 4/6/11). Fire in the Foothills

Just snapped these photos on Tramway, headed South. (Apologies for the fast-moving cell-phone snaps!)

There's a fire in the foothills near Menaul. It looked like it was going uphill, away from the houses.

As we drove past, fire trucks were responding, and a big water tanker passed us as we were getting onto the freeway.…

Memento Mori

It doesn’t take much to remind me

what a mayfly I am,

what a soap bubble floating over the children’s party.

Standing under the bones of a dinosaur

in a museum does the trick every time

or confronting in a vitrine a rock from the moon.

Even the Church of St. Anne will do,
