Much has been made of the recent political campaign sign chaos
. Combined with the usual We Buy Homes, I Fix Brakes
and we are having a Yard Sale
, this was the perfect storm
(will this expression never end?) of signage carnage. Not to mention the raging inferno of the court battles lending us these instant classic
headlines: 10 Signs 10 Trips to Court, City Zoning Inspector's Car Windows Smashed
. The horror.
Before the next swathing of… Continue

It's apricot season in Albuquerque. Whether it's you, your neighbor, or your friend, chances are there's an apricot tree in your life laden with overripe fruit this week. Now.
I've tried (and failed) at plenty of canning endeavors. This is the best apricot preserves recipe

Imbibe I did! Did anyone get the license plate of that old Ford pickup truck that ran over my head last night in Nob Hill? I’m still picking hay out of my hair. Ouch. Is that goat #2
I smell? More good times that involve booze in the old Duke City. I've got the Bloody Marys all lined up for the usual… Continue

The father of St. Francis of Assisi was an asshole. The father (Bernardone, but we'll call him Bernie) would wait for the great saint to re-enter their hometown of Assisi, and then Bernie would follow Francis around screaming at him, "you are a disgrace to the family!" "you are worthless!" "you are an embarrassment to your mother and I!"
We can often withstand many of the negative voices of those who do not and can not understand the path we have chosen, yet the voice of our father strikes… Continue

With so many 'weather widgets' available for your use directly on your desktop, this may not be the most useful thing, however it's a 'good to bookmark URL' for your local weather needs...Kudos to Koat for trying out this new Beta online radar weather map that will (after much clicking) take you to the current weather right out your window (or you could look out your window!)...It's a Fun page to check out current weather in other locales as well.

All the bees are NOT gone, but the skies ARE gray ... today ... in Albuquerque ...

Little did I know that New Mexico had its very own underground comics collective, 7000 BC
. The stated mission of the organization is to "provide opportunities for comics writers and artists to develop their personal styles and storytelling "voices," while promoting an understanding of the cultural significance of comic art through seminars and workshops". Pretty righteous stuff huh?

Yay! Marty against bottled water
! But what's this
? The whole San Juan Chama project from years back has a small link
(to the top of the left column) for the San Juan Chama bottle water giveaway. The link is broken, but the water bottle giveaway was real enough. So what's the… Continue

The BBC had this article
Australia's top treasury official is taking five weeks leave to look after endangered wombats. I would love to do that.

I have recently lost my dog D.J. Or, as we call her, Baby D. Her name stands for Dachsundicus Jiganticus because she looks like a giant weiner dog. Originally, though, I meant for it to mean Dutchess Judy because I thought the dog from Fox and the Hound was named Duke. Really, though, she is a full-bred Golden Retriever on her mother's side and a full-bred Basset Hound on her father's side. She has been registered as lost at http://www.petharbor.com/… Continue

Today's AbqJournal comics page (Thursday, June 26th, 2008) has the oddest editorial comment e-v-e-r. In black border under the comic, 9 Chickweed Lane
, it sez: Above comic subbed for content. Strip available at abqjournal.com/comics tomorrow.
Wha??? The comics are being expurgated?
Here's the not-fit-for-print comic:

Now that Battlestar Galactica has run its course, what's a geek to do this Friday night? See the Selsun Blue show at RB Winnings
this Friday night
, of course. When my husband first saw the Selsuns, he loved them so much that he swore they'd play at his wedding. Fast forward five years and my husband was the Selsuns' drummer and sure enough, I was walking… Continue

It's not just for tourists. Old Town- that place where we take our out of town friends for an afternoon stroll - is saying "Yoohoo, sailor" to the town at large. My suggested prescription for a Wednesday evening in summer: start at Seasons
with a margarita (with their house made sweet and sour - try the Hornitos version at $8). Climb down from the cantina (happy hour runs from 4-6:30) and head to the… Continue
