Softball was cancelled tonight so I took the intellectual road over to the
public library to renew my library card to be able to download audio books online and while I was there I picked up a few books on tape and CD.
Unfortunately my boom box decided to call it quits and I won't be able to listen to 'A Lesson Before…

This is the second year of CROSSING: a graduate student exhibition that seeks the top talent from graduate programs around the country. This year's inspiring 1st Place artist (which means she receives a purchase award of $500 and she's invited to have a solo show at Richard Levy Gallery), is Chika Matsuda from the University of Arizona. Due to our respective geographies we were not able to chat in person, but I did catch up with Chika via… Continue

The past weekend found me in my old stomping grounds, mixing business with pleasure. On Friday night, 9/26, I gave a reading with 4 other talented poets in West Hollywood, in the patio behind Stories Bookstore, located on Sunset Blvd. It was a beautiful night, and hosts Bryan Sanders and Robert Juarez put together a great lineup. And I had a chance to chat with…

First off, the great news! Saturday was the

It's 5:06 on a Tuesday morning. Outside, the birds are relentlessly chirping in the dying Elm tree that hovers over our modest trailer. The traffic on 98th street is ever increasing each time I step out to have a smoke. Somewhere, in the not too distant area, a loud bang goes off. Probably some guy who thinks its funny to blow his fireworks and wake his neighbors. In this area of town though, you never know what evil lurks in the early morning…

(FYI- Part One "Got my mojo workin'" of this post can be found at the
Sol site).
I realized that I've been blogging primarily my success stories. Don't fear - I've had my fair share of failures, too. They're just brief, and don't warrant much conversation. But here SOME of them are, in all their glory.
1) The time I took advice from my readers and tried to find people in places that hold common…

Soy de Burque is very excited to announce a new line of apparel for the little Burqueños around town.
It's never to early to teach them to say, "¡soy de burque!"
Orale...check them out.
Long live Burque. Down with the…

I am really getting pumped about moving to Albuquerque. The landlord that we found is kind and considerate, and willing to work with us in the time-frame that we require - not to mention the fact that we aren't even paying a pet deposit. Between the three of us humans we have quite the menagerie following us around.
Other than the views from the house, which are incredible, I think the thing I'm most excited about is the pool table in the game room. I've gotten really rusty over the…

Oh my...what a typo in this morning's Sunday Journal article, "Well-Worn Success" by David Steinberg in the BOOKS section.
Funny, I always thought it was Bird Song Books although Bird Dong does have a ring to it...Ouch.

What do you do with a major gift from an ex-boyfriend? Christina Socorro Yovovich did three things. 1. Hang his watercolor on her bedroom wall. 2. Listen as her new boyfriend (now husband) interpreted it. 3. Write an ode.
Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Christina has lived in Albuquerque for the past ten years. This spring she graduated from UNM with an MFA in poetry and nonfiction with distinction. Her poetry has appeared in

James D. Houston is dead and it came as more of a shock than to hear of the deaths of Jackson, Fawcett, and McMahon combined…. And you’re looking at me like you don’t know who James D. Houston is.
I was flipping through the most recent issue of Poets & Writers and their “Memorium” column caught my eye. It seemed longer…

Whew... I noticed I rarely update *this* blog, so here goes.
The next big event for me/"us" is the NM Game Jam to be held at UNM's ARTS Lab, July 10th through 12th.
What is it? Well, based on the great experience several of us had with Global Game Jam back in January, the core team at our Rio Grande IGDA Chapter decided to so a similar event here this summer: getting groups of game developers, designers, programmers and artists…
