With the holiday weekend, right around the corner and the explosive fire conditions clouding the skies with an ominous haze and clouding the future of the existence of fireworks in the state. With statelaw makers proposing the ban of fireworks in emergency conditions (i.e. now), and grocery stores pulling there store…

City Library Renovation Deadlines?
Does anyone know when the library's Special Collections renovation will be complete?
The posted June 1, 2011 deadline was missed and the building is still fenced and unavailable to the public. Haven't seen an acknowledgement by the city anywhere.
I have lived here many years so I know that the "manana" attitude gets in the way of much that is started here so I am not surprised the deadline was missed. Just curious if we have a new deadline to aim…

The Sunday Poem: Susy Crandall... Cosmic Smudging (Or Living in New Mexico Burning)
Even before scientists can put those forest fires into perspective, poets find ways to do it. Here Susy Crandall makes sense of the world she sees and breathes.
I am practically a native New Mexican, been here since 1960, practice occupational…

Our Job Jar
If your house is like mine, you’ve done some work on it.
My house is about 45 years old, so the work has included replacing things like the stove and the refrigerator. The roof is newer than the house as is some of the plumbing. Things inside are certainly younger than the house: the TV, the telephone, the toilets. We have a microwave and a computer…

Neighborhood Trash? or Neighborhood Treasure?
Anyone who lives near the university, has walked around the neighborhood, stopped at the post office on Cornell, or parked a couple blocks away from The Frontier, knows about the Gilchrist House. As it stands (barely) it is at once an historic landmark (interesting commentary on what we value in terms of…

In remembrance of Albuquerque Film Festival founding father, Dennis Hopper, on the year anniversary of his death. We miss you Dennis!
“In 2009, we set out to create a film festival in Albuquerque. It was my dream to screen Easy Rider since it was the 40th Anniversary of the film that I believe set the indie film revolution in motion.
Someone once told me to dream big so I dreamed that I was in the Kimo Theater watching Easy Rider with Dennis Hopper. I knew…
