I was at Uptown yesterday to hit
Anthropologie and had to stop by Starbucks for an iced something (did you notice how hot it was?) I'm usually immune to Starbucks marketing but this time they tapped into my NM love with a state-specific mug. It has a picture of the Taos Pueblo on it (the usage of which I'm ambivalent about) but the hook for me was the text, 'New Mexico, red or green?'…

An inebriated man stopped me near our home and asked,
"where am I?"
I told him he was in downtown Albuquerque. He replied,
"Oh, cool, I was born here; how is everybody?"

Turns out, my dogs have their
own blog...
I had no idea they were so verbose.
Seems they have a lot to say about being dogs, living here in Albuquerque, and current events in the dog world.
Gonna have to make sure they don't get a hold of my BlackBerry...

Pretty soon I may not have a house TO sell.
I've been lamenting that my house is in month 4 of being on the market. To add to the bad luck? I was just awakened in the middle of the night by a doorbell ringing madly; it was a neighbor telling me someone had set a small fire in my yard. Especially given my chronic insomnia, I was not happy about my one chance at slumberly bliss being messed with (I really want to use other language here but I am trying to keep it clean).
I…

I'm so excited that I just was granted my New Mexico Massage License - it's #6065 - and I'm declaring that it's a lucky number!
I've been a bodyworker and massage therapist for over 20 years, and now I'm legal to market and develop my private practice here in the Land of Enchantment.

Inspired by Khan's piece on Kinkade, here is an article that was published in Tamarind's 2006 newsletter. Enjoy!
Defining the Digital Print
People are confused about digital prints. What are they? Are they originals? What is the difference between a digital print and a lithograph? Are they worth as much as lithographs? What is the difference between hand printing and digital printing? Which one should I buy?
Let’s clarify the names first. Whether they are called…

This week I let my daughter pick the pictures for today's 'Where in Burque is Adelita' post. It took her a while to finally decide which photos she thought would be the perfect combination to stump you!
I like that some DCFers have suggested some really cool spots for me to photograph. I'm collecting all those suggestions for a post all its own. So if you find a super wonderful spot I should photograph, by all means, let me know. Or if you…

While out and about today, I noticed some conspicuous advertising. I posted this first on my personal blog, but when I realized that I had a picture that included attorney Russ Whitener on it, I needed to post this here on Duke City Fix, too.
I'm still in Albuquerque, as I've noted previously, and thus I missed out on what…

Unfortunately, someone somewhere decided that art was intended for a specific segment of the population. At least here in the United States. Other societies don't have this problem, and it
really is a problem. I have no idea if the Jesse Helms's of the world convinced the majority of the population that art is None Of Their Business and has nothing to do with them, or if it was some uppity art scene somewhere sometime, who wanted to keep the help from attending the openings. Either way,…

So, I was house sitting for some friends in western Colorado. (That's the kind of thing you get to do when you're a freelance writer, and you can work from pretty much anywhere.) I was up there from July 7 through the end of last week.
Whenever I'd check the news, weather, etc. I'd read all about flash flooding and rain and all sorts of wonderful things like that. When I returned, I saw that my tomato plans were outrageously humongous--one has even attached itself to the lower…

My daughter and I were just on 2nd Street between Menaul and Candelaria when I had to do a double take. Itsa Italian Ice is back! They've only been open since July 12th.
We walked in and indulged ourselves with great Italian Ice. They have a full menu of hamburgers, hot dogs, Frito pie, corn dogs, gelati, ice cream, and of course, Italian Ice. Didn't get lunch, but the choices for the ice were many - lemon, cherry, watermelon, black…
