Today was a momentous day. One of those days that I am proud to say "I was there."
It's one of those situations that I really think you had to be there to experience, but there were moments where I had serious chills and tears in my eyes. I got to be a part of both National and New Mexican history.
What happened? The National Atomic Museum's B-52 bomber, that has been sitting in the same spot at the old museum location on base for THIRTY FIVE YEARS, had one of the final…

I went out around the neighborhood looking for Halloween displays, but I didn't find much. There were lots of little ghosts and pumpkins and one pet cemetery. A decent helping of webs and a handful of scarecrows. Seems like things are a little subdued this year. I suspect everyone is preoccupied with the election.
We're tentatively planning to hand out candy for awhile and then mosey on to Nob Hill, the Press Club and downtown to…

Voices in the Darkess {The Series}
A True Family Story
I bought my house around the time of July 1988. I purchased my house at a very reasonable price from an ex-military officer who had been transferred to California. He had been the fourth owner since the house was built and as for me I was the fifth occupant. The house was actually somewhat big, especially for someone that lives by himself. It has…

As a non-profit art and community center with four unique gallery spaces, the Harwood has an unusual freedom to support a diverse spectrum of artists. As we all know, the competitive nature of markets, which includes galleries, often limits the quantity and diversity of things found in markets (ie: exhibiting artists' voices). We take great pride in the fact that we frequently showcase new faces in the art world, adding bits of fresh perspective…

Reducing our Use.
Built in 1925, the historic two-story brick building that we call "The Harwood" presents an exciting (and some times confounding) opportunity to translate an inefficient structure in to a model for sustainable (re)building. We have decided to open up this translation process to others in the community, as we firmly believe that every moment is a teaching moment. And these are lessons that we all need to…

Don't get me wrong, I love the guild, or rather I WANT to . . . I was raised going to funky little old theaters, doing the Rocky Horror thing (before the military chants and stupid pre-shows; in my day only the film had a staring role-but I digress). Tonight I went out with my husband; great meal at the Korean Barbecue House, we went to the guild. I had seen in the Alibi they were playing a Hammer film with Oliver Reed (William Shatner wishes he could over-act so perfectly) in a biker…

Voice in The Darkness {The Series}
A True Family Story
It happened when I was ten years old. I still remember it like it was yesterday. There have been times in my life since then when I have not thought about it, but I can never forget it. My family also never talks about it.
Never
I'm not sure the reason why. Maybe it has to do with the event itself. The reason why it happened…

In past presidential elections, my father and I would debate about the candidates and their policies. My father was a staunch Republican, believing in lower taxes, greater deregulation for entrepreneurships and conservative fiscal policies. I have always been a more liberal thinker, believing in social reform and free thought. I wasn't against more taxes, so long as it promoted greater social services such as better education and health care. Oh, how we argued...I mean…

... For whomever you're voting for - You're going to vote, right?
This is NOT an Obama/Mccain conversation - it's a question of yes/no.
I realize that there's always a lot of talk about "Just don't bother, it doesn't make a difference", or "(so and so) will win without my help, anyway" - but that's flat out not true. The only way to change a broken machine is to do something to start changing it.
Don't fall for the "Don't bother to vote" spin, no matter who's…
