to my About Me section because it summarizes my experience as a College Counselor while I worked at South Valley Academy. It was galvanizing. It brought me closer to an understanding of myself, my culture and our society, and drove home points that are easy to side glance and never truly address.
In an effort to keep the scary Barelas chickens from pecking my jack-o-lantern to pieces, I'm feeding them pumpkin rinds and seeds. We'll see if it works.

It's pretty amazing how much work it is to put on a porn festival. The 3rd Annual Pornotopia Erotic Film Festival takes place in eight days according to the countdown clock on our website, and I continue to be grateful for all the individuals and organizations making Pornotopia 2009 possible.
Tickets are about to be printed, Pornotopia T-shirts are being designed, flyers are being distributed, sponsors are preparing… Continue
So, tomorrow is Create a Great Funeral Day. Have you made any plans? Would you even know where to start?
Most people don’t have a funeral plan. They don’t want to think about it, don’t know why it’s important, or think they’ll get around to it “someday.”
Newsflash: Just as talking about sex doesn’t make you pregnant, thinking about death and funerals won’t make you dead. And by discussing these touchy topics, you might avoid a world of hurt.
(Note: We've invited Patricia to follow this discussion so that she may address your food preservation questions!)
The apples are falling off the trees and you still have a bag of tomatoes left from that summer garden. Or, perhaps you’re seeing big bargains on berries at the store and would have a hand in the jam you spread on your toast each morning. What to do? Can it!
Just think of all the pricy gourmet food items that… Continue
It occurred to me yesterday, as I read my favorite degenerate sports fan/sportswriter's column, that this week is the nexus of All Things Great, and for so many people.
To wit: we successfully made the transition from Autumn to Winter, I covered (and then uncovered) my tomatoes on Monday night to prolong a little fresh… Continue
NOB HILL--One of the benefits of having a good public transportation system is the ability to do 'point to point' urban hikes on the weekend. A five mile hike down old Route 66 is possible, and then using the Rapid-Ride bus to get back home. This might be called Destination Hiking and it is in contrast to making a loop around your neighborhood so you end up back in your own front yard. All this is made easy by having the buses run on Saturday and… Continue
During Episode I, the Dark Lord Ning reached out through his series of tubes to vaporize Monday's Morning Fix. But I'm back to fight again for the rebel cause. No Ewoks allowed.
So the Census is getting started up here. No real news there, but the KOB…
All around Albuquerque, parents who are missing the Martha Stewart gene are panicking. Me? I’m grateful that those years are mostly behind me, and that my contributions these days are limited to hemming, driving teens to thrift stores and fabric stores, and identifying where things are stored in the attic. (The latter is the most challenging task by far).
That’s right. It is time to start thinking about Halloween costumes, if you haven’t… Continue
Gems of inspiration & Wisdom...
These first two quotes I happened into while reviewing a few things on our website:
"The greatest mistake [we] can make in life is to be continually fearing [we'll] make one."
"This one step - choosing a goal and staying to it - changes everything."
I neglected to include the origin of these quotes and, in the process of refreshing the page looking for their respective authors, happened into all these other gems of wisdom… Continue

I was never a huge Lobo's fan. I was born here in the Duke City but raised in Texas and my fingers naturally form into a Hook em Horns sign rather than a barking wolf. Having said that, I think it's time to change my home team. After winning the tickets from DCF the wife and I headed down to the field around 4 o'clock. She actually took off work early so she could make it. It was her first football game after all and I wanted her to experience it from start to finish.
The adventure that is Gaurav Rajen's life began in India where he was born. This look back to his native land tries to come to grips with what has to be one of the most complex countries on the face of the planet. Packed with emotions and vivid images, this poem both dances and broods.
A short second poem, Late Night Hells, follows.
I live in Albuquerque's NE heights. I am an engineer with a doctorate working on…Continue
The Family Plot: Funeral Planning for Those Who Don't Plan to Die is my WordPress blog that I started in August to provide the information, inspiration and tools to plan and implement creative, meaningful and memorable end-of-life rituals for people and pets. With gentle humor, I dish on the latest developments in death care along with vital information about funeral arrangements that most people don’t learn about until faced with a death in the family.
