As 2008 comes to a close, I start remembering the year, and especially, remembering those who are no longer with us. One Albuquerquean in particular comes to mind: Palmer Nelson.
I first met Palmer in 1997 while he was working in his wife's picture framing shop and gallery.
Our family has never really observed the annual “Take Your Child to Work” day. This is because, as anyone who has spent time in a small family owned business knows, every day… Continue

While I know that ramdomly adding people like crazy on Myspace rarely leads to anything, it's still something you end up doing sometimes, because there can be some traffic out of it. That's why I'm quite interested in Myspace's new total subversion of their own user controls. As of the past couple days, the big M seems to be filtering all friend request traffic, and requiring you to answer a CAPTCHA for nearly every friend add. It seems that it will go away sometimes, but if you are adding too… Continue

Please Help us, to help the pit bulls of Albuquerque! Buy a calendar today!!
We are the Burque Babes and Bullies, a group of pit bull owning, dog loving ladies, who decided to create a calendar to help raise funds to support Albuquerque's pit bulls. All of our proceeds this year will benefit Responsibly Adopting Albuquerque’s pit bulls, and to also help foster and find forever homes for bullies on death row.
UNM CAMPUS--Tucked into the underground cavity that is called the Centennial Science & Engineering Library, the Depew radio collection is seldom seen and rarely discussed. But this collection of radios just might embrace the most dramatic five years of Geekdom ever assembled. The years 1921 - 1926 were the seminal years for the development of vacuum tubes, laying the groundwork for not only radios… Continue
There is nothing quite like knowing that someone else will be inside of your room all night - hanging their clothes in your closet, sleeping in your sheets, and wandering around to look at all the things you've collected - well, there's nothing quite like that impending event to motivate a very thorough… Continue
And I don't mean hair extensions. I mean tapestry and other fiber art. My friend, award-winning tapestry and mixed media artist Donna Loraine Contractor will be a featured artist at the City of Albuquerque’s Open Space Visitor Center’s two-person show New Mexico Weaves Tapestry, January 3-February 28, 2009. Donna shares the main exhibition gallery with fellow weaver Pat Dozier. An opening… Continue

It's been about a week now since Hedwig ended, which has been surreal. It was definitely one of the most fun experiences of my life, and I am sad to see it go. Our final show on sunday the 21st was rock solid, marred with a tinge of sadness because it was our last show. As Brian looked back at us before "Midnight Radio", tears in his eyes, I think we all felt the depth of what we'd been doing for the past three months with this production. We belted out one of the most heartfelt renditions of… Continue

From ages past, the evening twilight of the high desert has been a favorite time of day for those of us fortunate enough to breathe deep the high desert vibes...It is a difficult 'thing' to catch in a photograph. Habari Gani!

The first time I observed Kwanzaa in Albuquerque was at a UNM community celebration over ten years ago. Students, staff, faculty, and community members gathered in the old… Continue
