Man, today was a good day. It was one of those days where all the pieces fall together beautifully. The online world intersected with the real world, social media gave way to social interaction, and locals met with other locals to support…

“Strange days have found us. Strange days have tracked us down” –The Doors.
I can often be overheard spewing forth such tidbits as my continued genuine surprise at not winning the Powerball
. Well guess what… I didn’t win again! On the bright side- I was only off by 5 numbers. But I have seen such strange “signs” in my world lately that it could happen. That… or it’s the… Continue

Rob Dickson sent out appologies withdrawing from the Mayors race about two weeks ago. The Public FInancing parameters appear to be too ridgid and difficlut for a number of the potential Mayoral candidates (Debbie O'Malley also withdrew due to frustration with the $5 donation public financing plan) This is something politically minded folks may want to work on for future elections.
Our local champion of "New Urbanism" Rob Dickson, has… Continue

Job loss. Mortgage crisis. Failing banks. Stimulus plan. Recession. The news these days isn't exactly a source of peace of mind. For me, I've looked to local organizations for inspiration and motivation. Right in our backyard, the non-profit sector is pushing hard to make a real difference in peoples' lives.
I've volunteered with Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque
for merely a year (and recently joined the Board), but in that time I have gotten to… Continue

I was singing that to the tune of Wishin' and Hopin'
". I know, im an idiot. So I was wishin' and hopin' I would enjoy Shop N Stroll as usual... and I did!
It was coooooold! Note to self: wear a sweater &/or gloves &/or scarf/other winter gear next time. I tried to huddle as close to the fire jugglers as possible. It was quite warm right under the heater on the patio of… Continue

I bet you've been wondering where I've been. I mean since that Hollywood Halloween anyway. No? Fine. Well last night I was at Imbibe! Wait, did I see you there? If not, you missed a great event. It was their "Drew Estate Night". Drew Estate
is a Nicaraguan cigar company... makers of the "Acid" line you may have heard of as well as about 7 others you may not have.… Continue

In my long awaited kickoff to another semi-regular column (?) er “blog”… I hate that term… may I present the “Burquewood Watch”. Is that taken? (Long awaited by whom?) Say it… “geek”. O.K. so not to resemble the invasive Paparazzi
(and I didn’t have my camera
with me tsk tsk tsk) let’s just say I saw so & so last night lurking about… Continue

Sausage sausage sausage! We kicked off the Labor Day weekend around Martini World! with a small cookout. What began as fetching a sample of sausages from Joe S. Sausage
was quickly dubbed "Sausage Fest 2008". My friends are meat eating animals of the most civilized kind. Most Fridays our close friends just end up here or there for a drink or two, maybe some dinner. This Friday we… Continue

Well I made it out and about in ABQ for a 3rd afternoon in a row! Woohoo! And this was close to home. There was a lot of arguing in the news and various websites about closing Central and alleged bus service disruptions, etc. etc. But you know what? This was fun, it was a quiet Sunday afternoon in Nob Hill
, hence minimal disruption, and I get tired of hearing people whine. The Shop and Stroll was… Continue

On the eve of the most wonderful time of the year I really start to get into "the spirit". The spirit of The Land of Enchantment, and of Albuquerque. The most wonderful time of the year for me is Labor Day through Christmas. OK, well around here it may extend through St. Patrick's Day! But we have Chile roasting
, The NM Wine Festival

firstly, is RockSquawk kinda slow these days? I posted the article below in hopes of igniting a good conversation with other studio owners (posted in the studio section of Squawk), engineers, and others... but this post just sat there... no love... kinda weak if you ask me. I thought maybe... just maybe... at least the studio owners, engineers and producers of this town could find common ground to talk about recording music, gear, ups and downs of studio ownership, working with other engineers,… Continue

We saw the article in the Sunday paper (6/22) and just had to join this group. Sorry we missed the Coop Tour. We have been looking for help for a few years but could not find any locally, until now. We live in the South Valley and about 5 yrs ago two hens took up residence in our yard. We have no coop for them so they sleep in our trees. They are named "Mazey" and "Chicken LIttle" and just seem happy to be here. They scratch around the property and keep down the snail and… Continue

If any of you ever rode the bus in Seattle, you know that one of that city's gems is its program to put poetry on the bus.
Every year, a non-profit, in coordination with the City, announces a themed poetry competition, with a tight word limit. They work hard to get poets of all ages (i.e. work w/ local schools) to submit. They're up to receiving 3,000 entries a year!
They select a certain number, get a graphic artist to… Continue
