It's done Sprung

Yesterday I decided to ride my bike to work. I live up by Cibola high school, and work is in a little home office off of Rio Grande. It was a perfect day for riding, even on my old rat-bike cruiser.

So, this will sound fruity as hell, but it was, like, the first day of spring for me. The leaves had really all just said 'screw it',' and pushed on out to do their thing. Along Alameda, just east of Coors, there's a field that has horses and sheep. That morning, there were a half-dozen… Continue

Heart of the City

I guess when most people think of "the heart of the city," they think of a vibrant downtown area. They certainly don't think of the mockery of downtownery* that Burque boasts. For me, the heart of our city is the Rio Grande bosque. (The Sandias are the lungs, downtown is the spleen, and Cottonwood Mall is the diseased colon.) Goosage

I like to walk my dog down around Alameda Bridge. I spotted this goose for the first time about three weeks ago, sitting on an little bit of island, twenty feet off the bank. It didn't occur to me that she was sitting a nest until last Sunday when we went back and she was still there. I'm anxious to see the goslings now. Anybody know how long it… Continue

Heart of the Bosque

Zoom past the Bosque on I-40 or any of the other bridges during winter and the Rio Grande looks gray and dormant. However, if you take the time to chat with it up close, there's color, life, motion, and sound.

Of course, the color is muted, as is the bird chatter (until you wander far enough from the bridges), but it's there. The year-round Canadian geese nap on sandbars, or drift in the lazy current.…

Walking on the River the joyous things we see.

Me and Paula took our morning walk along the river on Thursday morning. We are blessed because we have a tiny little section of Bosque that is not used by many other people. We had just come down the hill from the levee onto the Bosque when our dog Osa started acting really bizarre. She was looking to the east the hair was up on the back of her neck and she was wanting to growl but she was restraining herself. I looked at a quick glance and I didn't see anything. Then when I turned again I… Continue
