A better quality grocery store for Downtown?
I know you've heard nothing on this subject for some time, but behind the scenes all kinds of good stuff has been going on. Roger Lowe Jr. is showing a great deal of interest in doing a major re-hab on the 11th and Lomas store and would like to show all interested what he recently finished in his Lubbock store, and to take ideas and input from all ABQ residents served by this store. He also is seeking public support for the beer and wine… Continue

It may be very, very important... or not, but are you tired of sounding off about city police enforcing immigration policy - and the related fallout? Well here is an opportunity to sound off to the Mayor about something else.
Currently, on the home page of the city web site www.cabq.gov
You can click a link and leave Mayor Berry a comment about an oft-proposed "Events Center" in the Downtown area.
Below is are my… Continue

It seems that almost everyone would like to have a NEW grocer Downtown, something like Sunflower Market or Trader Joes. But, those grocers have been hesitant, or downright refused, to move into the area. Ranch Market has been one recent alternative, but it's not, well, culturally relevant, for some of us. Nor is it nutritionally acceptable for those of us trying to avoid obesity or diabetes or the like... for instance, I could not find ONE multigrain cracker brand/style in that… Continue

Hey young and old urbanites, I wish to address an issue that so many of my downtown friends and clients bring up... "We need a quality, full scale grocery store Downtown!"
It has gotten to the point in the last l5 or so years of active redevelopment of the urban core that we have HIT THE WALL with our progress! Buyer's come to me wanting to move downtown and many end up buying elsewhere because of access to a reasonable grocery store. Or, they buy downtown and want to sell a couple… Continue

So, I was downtown having my first monthly record swap over at The Agency, when I was approached by a man with a camera. He asked me if I had heard anything about the Gang War that was going to happen downtown, sometime in the afternoon.
I replied with a "no" and shook my head at him, wondering how and why this guy was running around downtown with a camera looking for a gang war - without one APD officer in sight.
He was with Channel 13 News and according to him, he was… Continue

Early last week I was lamenting the not at all recent closing of Musashino, a fantastic Japanese restaurant that shut their doors about 8 years ago. The two years preceding their closure my partner in crime and I used to occasionally flee the front of the house chaos at the nearby microbrewery where we waited tables to sample the finest in Nipponese fare. We would escape the glare of the mid summer sun into the cool dark of this North San Pedro hole in the wall run solely by an aged Japanese… Continue
