A Gringo's Guide to Spanish Market

I get the question "so, what exactly IS Spanish Market?" all the time from timid visitors to locals that have lived here all their lives. It's a simple enough question that doesn't really get answered anywhere. The more I learn about the Spanish Colonial Arts, the more I appreciate the historical significance and believe every New Mexican and every visitor should hear the introduction at least once.  And, I completely recognize just how confusing all the jargon around the Markets can be.…

Living in the Land of Enchantment: 10 Things to do in Albuquerque

There are so many places to see and things to do around here, it's really hard to pick just one to write about! This week, I decided to write about 10 (make that 11)  things to do in the area. Martin's Voice: Frothy Fiction Set in Santa Fe; Curl Up in Bed With It

The book is called Martin’s Voice. Why, I don’t know. It’s kind of a saucy book, and includes a Latin word or two like coitus interruptus, but it is not what you would call naughty by any means. It’s a rather unorthodox piece of fiction, filled with big words. Among them such names and places as Rosa Parks, the New Mexican, Nagasaki, Nixon, Robert Oppenheimer, the Bull Ring, John F. Kennedy, Selma, Ala., opium, Corvette, George McGovern, hippies.

Not all are nouns. There are…

New Mexico, A Hot Bed For The Emerging Green Economy

New Mexico is a “Hot Bed” for the emerging Green Economy. It’s a garden bed nurturing the seeds of change to fruition. I have been on a job search for five months in the Land of Enchantment, and during this time I have found a myriad of self employed people and businesses built on the foundation of sustainability. My searches have been focused primarily in Albuquerque and the surrounding region, and my Google searches have brought me to people and businesses through out the entire state. For… Continue
