Dr. Seuss Had A Tripod

I've worked at a handful of animal shelters - from ones in California to a fairly well-known facility in Denver - and now Animal Humane NM. Some things stay the same, like there will always be a boatload of great Pit Bulls needing homes (unless you're in a city like Denver and there's a ban), and puppies seem to fly out the door like hot cakes - no matter how they're going to look or be when they grow up.

From open admission (where we… Continue

The Cult of Coronado (the Wiener)

Whether you’re a Burqueño, a Northeast Heightseño or a Nob Hilleño, you know it. I know it. Coronado Wieners are where it’s at…wherever that may be. They’re the bomb…and the packaging looks like one too--like a case of dynamite from a loony western cartoon.

I once debated with myself about smuggling a two-pound, pink package of Coronados with me on a plane. But I feared it would have caused panic with the TSA once the wieners hit the… Continue

Goodbye Old Friend, RIP Martini Dog

I said goodbye to an old friend today. My dog. My first dog as an adult. Romeo Tyson D'Arco. He was a lover and a fighter. A lot like me. He was old and gained a little weight and turned a little gray... a lot like me. I'm gonna miss him.

I first met Romeo in a box behind Scalo (he was in the box, not me at that time). I could not resist him. I resided on a few acres in the… Continue

Blog Crazy

Turns out, my dogs have their own blog...

I had no idea they were so verbose.

Seems they have a lot to say about being dogs, living here in Albuquerque, and current events in the dog world.

Gonna have to make sure they don't get a hold of my BlackBerry...

WORRIED OWNER DESPERATELY MISSES DJ! REWARD!!!

I have recently lost my dog D.J. Or, as we call her, Baby D. Her name stands for Dachsundicus Jiganticus because she looks like a giant weiner dog. Originally, though, I meant for it to mean Dutchess Judy because I thought the dog from Fox and the Hound was named Duke. Really, though, she is a full-bred Golden Retriever on her mother's side and a full-bred Basset Hound on her father's side. She has been registered as lost at http://www.petharbor.com/… Continue

10 minutes in a Nob Hill parking lot

So there I was in a Nob Hill parking lot behind a rainbow painted car with an Om on the trunk, when a couple walked by. She was late 20s, he at least 65. Unaware of my presence, they kissed giddily and she tugged on one of his greying locks. "Oh what's this?" she asked pulling a strand away from his face. "Hey it's bird poop," she crooned. "That means you're…

House Sitting Job #1

Alright! With summer here so is my primary source of summer income! Beginning May 26th and continuing through June 1st I will be House Sitting out in Los Lunas. I get to take care of four wonderful dogs, two cats, and two horses! This is a great place for me to be because it is like a vacation from my family and time to think about what I'm going to do. It also gives me the chance to catch up on some reading and to get some scholarship writing done!

I ate at the Green Weenie

At $2.50 a pop, those "environmentally friendly frankfurters" touted in yesterday's Journal have got to be the cheapest lunch downtown. I stopped by the electric car hot-dog stand today with a friend to scope out the scene and can testify that it was a solid dawg experience.
