In remembrance of our founding father, Dennis Hopper, on the year anniversary of his death. We miss you Dennis!
“In 2009, we set out to create a film festival in Albuquerque. It was my dream to screen Easy Rider since it was the 40th Anniversary of the film that I believe set the indie film revolution in motion.
Someone once told me to dream big so I dreamed that I was in the Kimo Theater watching Easy Rider with Dennis Hopper. I knew…
Having been an Easyrider fan it was quite the treat when we started seeing Dennis Hopper around town. I even did a blog post last fall on what I observed him have for breakfast at the Flying Star. He and his lovely wife and a small entourage sat next to Karla and I on the back patio of the Rio Grande Star. He's really a beautiful man.
I was able to snap this photo of Hopper last July at the Albuquerque Film Festival awards ceremony.… Continue
It's pretty amazing how much work it is to put on a porn festival. The 3rd Annual Pornotopia Erotic Film Festival takes place in eight days according to the countdown clock on our website, and I continue to be grateful for all the individuals and organizations making Pornotopia 2009 possible.
Tickets are about to be printed, Pornotopia T-shirts are being designed, flyers are being distributed, sponsors are preparing… Continue
Crazy creative stuff this Friday & one night only at that as the man needs to keep rollin' down the road to further screens & white walls ...

This morning we picked up the keys to our new art space!! The working name of the new space is 'Chroma on Roma'. After measuring all the studios, we have set the rents according to size. You can see a list of all the studios available on our website's Studios page. The rents will vary from $150 to $400/month. There will also be a few spaces opening up at the Central location, because some artists plan to move with us to the new… Continue
This time the film industry folks. Can you believe there is a bill going into committee tomorrow that will stop the state incentives paid to the film industry to keep them filming in NM? You may not know, but NM is not the only state offering these incentives. We are just the best state for the film industry that offers them.
Chances are pretty good that you've seen an email in recent days about NM House Bill 725 -- the one that proposes not limiting incentives for film and media industry, but eliminating them entirely. I realize I was being a little naive when I thought that something like this would never get out of committee -- I mean, New Mexico has become one of the top production centers in the world these past few years, almost from scratch, and we continue to be the model other states look at for a package… Continue
The USA Network's TV Show "In Plain Sight" filmed a few scenes of the next season's opener here at our small inn this past Monday. They set the place up as they liked it on Friday, including moving out Rol's pool table and turning that room into a bedroom. Our dining room became a living room again for the first time in 9 years. They returned Monday just before 6 am to set up and start the shoot. They were here all day and the last of them were out of here just before 9pm.
In my long awaited kickoff to another semi-regular column (?) er “blog”… I hate that term… may I present the “Burquewood Watch”. Is that taken? (Long awaited by whom?) Say it… “geek”. O.K. so not to resemble the invasive Paparazzi (and I didn’t have my camera with me tsk tsk tsk) let’s just say I saw so & so last night lurking about… Continue
It started with a call from ARTSlab Program Coordinator Eric Renz-Whitmore asking me if I was interested in helping a production crew with some sound editing. Hearing the exhaustion in his voice he put added the flavorful ending of "it's crazy and nuts around here if you want in on it"... how could I refuse!
I was introduced to a polite and informed individual who also had the hint of exhaustion in his voice. It was around 3pm when we spoke and the film was locked and being rendured.… Continue
This is the third time for the NM Filmmakers Conference (produced by the NM Film Office), and what started as some valuable information and a good chance to connect has really blossomed this year, becoming the one 'must attend' event for the state's film industry.
Two years ago, it seemed like everyone pretty much knew each other, but this year with 700+ attendees, most of them working professionals in film and related media, it's a real sign to me… Continue
