DimeStories of Albuquerque: Maria Leyba

Albuquerque writer Maria Leyba has an amazing gift for stories. I know this because for the past two years she has been a regular of my drop-in Monday Writers group.  She can take an obscure prompt and turn it into a nearly fully formed story in the span of seven minutes.  And it's no wonder--she has led an…

Morning Fix: South of the Border

  • More on the City Council "takeover." I think Councilor Peña is probably right that there might have been more constructive ways of getting a message across. But I don't think shutting things down and making arrests is an answer either. Also: terrible comments, even for the TV News…

A Dime for your Stories

Duke City DimeStories Open Mic premiered this past February 18... We had over 20 people attend our launch party (which long time locals tell me is "pretty good for Albuquerque").

We had funny, we had drama, we had poignant, and most of all we had a group of terrific writers reading great short stories.

DimeStories, huh?

In case you haven't been to a DimeStories Live Event in San Diego, LA, Orange County Calif. or New… Continue

One Year of Chroma Studios!

Next month marks the one year anniversary of Chroma Studios. To celebrate, we are opening the upstairs studios along with the downstairs gallery for First Friday. Besides all the killer art, we will have several musical acts playing in the gallery, out in the courtyard and upstairs on the patio! Featured artists for the month are Paula Manning-Lewis, co-owner/founder of Chroma Studios, and Chris Schelling, Chroma Studios artist.

There will… Continue

May 7, 2008. It's 6:30AM and I'm going to remember my sock liners today. I make some tea, put on my boots and head toward the foothills. I'd planned on visiting Piedra Lisa Canyon, but then Duke City Fit did a good write-up on it. Today I'm going back to the Embudo Canyon trailhead, but hiking north into a wash, then up.…
