Ask Adelita:Over-the-top birthday parties

Dear Adelita,

I feel like I’ve just come out of the twilight zone.  My daughter, 7 years old,  was invited to a birthday party and it was, shall we say, a bit over the top.  Clowns, exotic animals, popcorn and snow cone machines and extravagant party favors were just a few of the things at…

Politics of Destruction Can Still Give Us Change

Most of us, I think, are dismayed at the Democratic primary season we have just endured. The Democrats have turned on one another in a way that can only have been a pleasure for the Republicans to behold.

I witnessed a most unfortunate thread wherein a blogger, offended by robocalls that made an issue of someone's support of marriage equality, blindly cast aspersions on more than half the state. I am positive that this blogger considers herself a progressive, was the disconcerting… Continue

Martini Mike's Hangover Report - Lone Wolf Edition

I am up far too early for having gone to bed at approximately 4 am. I hold the looming thought of the inevitability of going to Lowes today at bay. My camera is full, my coffee is warm, and giddy girls carry on downstairs. Last night is almost like a dream at this point. Mostly a good dream except for a place I won’t mention by name. Hey, in the words of Doris Day… “… Continue

Martini Mike's Hangover Report - "Jumping into 2009 through the Moon Roof" Edition

As the tiptoes of the last house guest’s high heeled boots click clacked across my home... I was gently awakened this morning. I instantly recognize that a 2 a.m. Quesadilla/glass of water combo has saved me from a painful morning. As CNN is quickly changed to Encore Mystery on the Master Suite television, I… Continue

WPMMSAAHCFTHCNDHE!

(Um... that's a big bag of stuff for the homeless pictured in the banner, from last year, pre Nikon... btw)

It’s that time of the year again. The time when our neighbors let the *incessantly barking dogs out just a little later, when the sun is warm. Peace and Joy? How about Peace and QUIET! The time when little old ladies hit your car not once but twice in the parking lot at… Continue

It was coooooold! Note to self: wear a sweater &/or gloves &/or scarf/other winter gear next time. I tried to huddle as close to the fire jugglers as possible. It was quite warm right under the heater on the patio of… Continue

CD Release Party Afterthoughts

Thank you to all who attended the CD Release Party. I enjoyed sharing "Space Travel" with you. It was good to see all of you. It also sparked an idea that I know have. I am going to start organizing Intimate Concerts in our space. We were able to fit 20 guests seated comfortably right next to the performer. If you are a solo or duo musician please contact me so we can set one up for your. It was great to be that close to the action. Photos by Susan See will be going up soon.
Peace,

Sausage Fest 2008

Sausage sausage sausage! We kicked off the Labor Day weekend around Martini World! with a small cookout. What began as fetching a sample of sausages from Joe S. Sausage was quickly dubbed "Sausage Fest 2008". My friends are meat eating animals of the most civilized kind. Most Fridays our close friends just end up here or there for a drink or two, maybe some dinner. This Friday we… Continue

Pug Life

I am a... how do you say... Pug Pusher.

I volunteer locally with New Mexico Pug Resuce, and when I catch word of pugs in need of homes - the inner pug pusher in me comes out! Currently this local non-profit group has three more adoptable pugs. All three are 2-3 year old black pugs, two boys and one girl. I hear the boy and girl have grown very attached and adoption of both to one home is preferable.

Also, although several months out, please mark your calendars for… Continue
