Albuquerque among 20 strongest performing metro areas

Listmania strikes again! Albuquerque is listed among America's top 20 strongest metro areas, according to the Brookings Institution. Where is everybody?

Albuquerque is no longer considered a gateway, but a destination, thanks in part to our ACVB's Marketing efforts. But I see gloom and doom in the future with Albuquerque tourism.

Dear Albuquerque

Dear Albuquerque,

We met for the first time nearly a decade ago. You were meant to be a rest spot, a mere pause in my vector aimed somewhere else.

I had never even heard of Albuquerque—your name like a rock in my mouth, damn near impossible to spell. I had pictured desert palms sweeping upwards majestically, a globular sun bright as egg yolks. I imagined sand, coyotes, and glittery sombreros. I packed only shorts and t-shirts.
