It's been said that the first thing sacrificed in a political campaign is the truth and the facts. I was reminded of this last Monday while attending NAIOP's mayoral forum at the Uptown Marriott.



While I sat next to Marty Chavez, he claimed to be "the only candidate in the race that's ever cut taxes." It's a statement that Mr. Chavez makes a habit of repeating. It's also not true.

Income Taxes and Hummers -- If you gotta have one, it's great to have the other !



Not many folks I know are overjoyed about income tax time. The "Ides of April" tend to not be our favorite time of year. Here in the Duke City, however, we got a little golden tinge to the day. 2009 Bills (some left over from 2008 session) regarding Property Tax Fairness:



NOTE: Most bills with fiscal impacts upon state or local budgets, including this one, are not being acted upon in a very timely manner. The state's projected deficit for fiscal years 2009 and 2010 seems to be holding back activity on these bills which ask for a more level, fair method of valuation and taxation for all property owners.

Let's put it to the tourists, or how to bite the hand that feeds you.

As an innkeeper, I belong to all the regular innkeeping groups and stay tight with the associations that watch dog what is going on in the legislature regarding tourism in NM.



So, I got a notice today from TANM (Tourism Association of NM) via the NM Bed & Breakfast Association.
