Palm Sunday Departure

It is fun on occasion to look back at how you 'got to the here and now'.

One Spring I drove from my hometown in Jacksonville, Florida to Tennesse to 'take a hike'. A friend and I left the car at his family place in Pulaski (go KKK), Tn. and began a back-roads hike from there to to Sewanee (my alma mater: the University of the South)...Sewanee is on the Cumberland Plateau (2200 feet) and for a Florida Native, that was… Continue

No, not the actual Duke of Albuquerque. And not THE DUDE who abides over at the Duke City Fix's… Continue

Duke City Satiddy:WOOF, WOOF, WOOF!

I have never been a huge basketball fan and I certainly have never been more than an awful 'player' of the sport. Born short and with miniscule hands, 'roundball' never appealed to me and I never really got to know it at all, as a kid or adult (Oh God, am I one of those?). I was fairly good at 'football' (aka soccer!) playing on both my high school and college teams. The dance and grace of leggy folk floating through the air in baggy shorts never quite got me… Continue

WE WON...WE ARE NEW MEXICO

That was way too close.

The # 3 seed Lobos love to play it close and tonight's game with THE GRIZ of Missoula was no exception.

It would've been so typical LOBO to have lost tonight against all odds but WE DIDN'T...WE WON.

WE ARE NEW… Continue

Duke City Satiddy:Springing Ahead

"When you woke up this morning everything you had was gone." OK, things are not as bad as those Sopranos era song lyrics, but there may have to be some extra coffees had this morning to remove the sting of last night's LOBOS loss to San Diego. It's truly not the end of the world in earth-quaking clarity, but Cinderella's NCAA slipper got a little tighter around the edges. And it hurts.

So how can… Continue

Duke City Satiddy: in Just- spring

"in just" (aka in Just- spring) by e.e. cummings was originally published in The Dial Volume LXVIII, Number 5...This is a favorite poem of mine for many reasons even if e.e. cummings can't spell balloon (as all Albuquerque-ans can). For one thing, this is a poem that, with its line breaks and placement on the page, becomes a 'literary art piece'. It can be placed like a portrait of early spring onto your wall in a… Continue
