Trip to Bosque del Apache

I hope you've been to Bosque del Apache. If you haven't, you've missed something magical. Like much of New Mexico, Bosque is a relatively flat spot in sight of several mountain ranges. (Including a dazzling view of snow-capped Sierra Blanca ablaze in the setting sun.) Unlike much of New Mexico, Bosque has water. That plus grain and a spot along a natural migratory path brings thousands of birds of hundreds of species to or through this spot south of Socorro.

Get to Know an Atheist

Yes, people, I am an atheist. I don't believe in god. While I do believe in tolerance, I will stand up for my beliefs.



Some people think this is a good time to be an atheist. We're in the news a lot. We have superstars and best-sellers. We almost never get hanged (in America).



Lots of people have "lost their faith" -- as if that's good news to atheists. Many more people have a faith that doesn't depend upon an authority interceding between them and some higher power. No one… Continue

Open space > mind > heart

This morning, I stood in the backyard listening to leaves falling en masse, clattering over each other with a sound like rain. The leaves in the neighborhood had seemed too green, too late and now, days after a hard freeze, they were dropping fast. It was amazing to see and hear.
