The Borders Closure, Independents, and ABQ

When I was a teenager, Borders had just moved into our neighborhood, a part of the suburban sprawl of metro-Atlanta.  I'd always been an avid reader, but this was new - my first experience with an entire store devoted to books, all prior reading binges having been solely library-based.  This was before I discovered independents (the fantastic Brookline Booksmith in Massachusetts was my first), or became involved with local business at Bookworks here in Albuquerque.  Borders became a…
