May 3rd would have been John Lewis' 95th birthday. According to the John Lewis Biography page on the City of Albuquerque website:
John Aaron Lewis was an American jazz pianist and composer best known as the musical director of the Modern Jazz Quartet.
Lewis learned classical music and piano from his mother starting at the age of seven. Born…Continue

April 22nd marked Glen Campbell's 79th birthday. A musician with a mile long list of credits and hit songs, he got a start to his career right here in Albuquerque. I found a site that tells of his beginnings in the Duke City:
Born in Billstown,…Continue

This is one of those events that I like to try to go to when I can and it is happening Friday and Saturday. It is simply spectacular! It is the largest Pow Wow in North America. This is one time you will see The Pit transformed into a feast for the eyes. The crowning of Miss Indian World will be on Saturday night after the Grand Entry. There are over 800 artists,…Continue
How do you like your gumbo? If you like it with a little bit of Zydeco, a dash of blues, some Americana, mix in a splash of rancheras and a whole lot of South Valley, then you've got yourself some Felix y Los Gatos. With Felix Peralta on guitar and David Barclay Gomez on accordion these guys will get those feet tapping all night long. They are fun, energetic and…Continue

It was Top 40 bands versus non-Top 40 bands. And as always, it's all bands versus club owners. Enjoy this awesome video!
What I am finding so wonderful about musicians past and present in Albuquerque's music scene, is that it encompasses so many genres. Fernando Ortega is a singer-songwriter of adult contemporary Christian music. He was born and raised in the North Valley and graduated from Valley High School. His brother was in the wildly popular …Continue

I’ve never aspired to be an actor on stage or in the movies, not even secretly. Acting is just one of those things that was never a dream of mine. I don’t have a fantasy Oscar speech tucked away somewhere and have never even thought of what I would say if I won an Academy Award.
Recently I worked with a troupe of Latina women,…Continue
OK, let's just get this straight. New Mexico has the best green chile in the world. Is there any doubt about that? If so, can Colorado really compete with the green deliciousness that we are so famous for?…Continue
From what I've been told, The Planets were THE band in town to see. I am fortunate that friend John Cline has written a little biography of the band. Here is what he posted on Vintage Bands of Albuquerque's Facebook page:
"The Planets was formed in…Continue
