Are Teacher Pensions Safe? A Look At the NMERB Portfolio

NOB HILL--I looked at the TV screen yesterday afternoon while the DOW settled into a stunning decline of 777 points. The S&P alone suffered a paper loss of around $700 billion. $700,000,000,000!! That number may sound familiar--it is the same figure for the total of the so-called bailout that was defeated by Congress yesterday. Gone in one day. Not scared yet? How about this: if you had $500,000 in your 401K yesterday you lost about $35,000 in an… Continue

Truth wins! Honesty wins! Darren White Closes Up His Thieving Photoshop.

NOB HILL--It only took about 24 hours from the time of yesterday's post for the White campaign to take down the picture they stole off the Duke City Fix. That picture's twisted and tortured body now lies discarded in the depths of photoshop hell.

They have a new ad: same words, different pics of Martin Heinrich. This time they seemed especially careful to keep their mouse off his body. This is not to… Continue

Sheriff Darren White Stole My Picture...Then Tortured It!!!

NOB HILL--The race for Congress has taken a nasty turn. It is not lightly that I report that the Sheriff has stolen some of my stuff...really. I was watching the news at noon yesterday when Darren White's newest ad came on the TV screen. It started out with him saying, "My name is Darren White and I approved this message" or something like that. Before I knew it I was watching a picture of Martin Heinrich that looked mighty familiar. It should… Continue

Need a Good Auto Shop?

NOB HILL--There is no minimizing the bad news coming out of Wall Street. It has the real possibility of affecting us right here in Albuquerque in ways that seemed remote even a few months ago. These times call for finding ways to defend yourself against the fall-out from economic mistakes made elsewhere.

Spending your way out of this crisis does not sound like a good idea to me. If going into big-time debt for a new car doesn't make sense… Continue

APS & Mesa del Sol: Has the Wedding Been Called Off?

NOB HILL--It must have been a real stunner: last week's APS board meeting where Forest Covington's Michael Daly threatened APS with breaking away and forming their own district if they didn't get two schools built out there within three years. After all, Mesa del Sol has a population of zero...and several nearby south valley schools like Navajo Elementary are already… Continue
