The invisible readers of DCF

Our first week using a new system for Duke City Fix (yay, Ning) has certainly been interesting.

  • Overall site traffic has doubled.
  • The people formerly known as readers have created profiles, groups, and generally taken a more active role now that the technology enables it.
The most fascinating development to me is the difference between "members" (people who've… Continue

Los Lunas honey wins unofficial honey tasting in my kitchen

"This one's the most honey-riffic" said taster Paul of the dark, tangy honey produced by Los Lunas-based B's Honey Farm. In between his 2nd and 3rd white russians, Paul was taking a break from a movie about… Continue

The Pie Man Cometh

It's one of the juiciest fundraising moves I've seen in awhile: CD1 candidate Martin Heinrich delivers a Thanksgiving pie to one lucky campaign contributor.

I was a sucker for it. And so were numerous other DCF readers and devotees, one of whom actually won the specially-delivered pie.

Fix reader Floyd Vasquez just sent us this photo of…

We've created a monster

Checking in on the site before the big Thanksgiving push tomorrow when I'll be cooking for the 3 men currently occupying my Fringecrest digs.

As if that's not enough cause for worry, here on Duke City Fix I'm finding...

Why we moved to a new Duke City Fix

Well, You Asked For It

First things first. In our annual reader survey, you asked for:

  • The ability to edit comments
  • The ability to contribute stories to the site

  • A more cohesive relationship between blog posts and forum posts
  • A way to contact each other (without revealing private info)

  • More ways to build community in Albuquerque
I think this new site offers all that (and more), so I hope… Continue

Duke City Fix, faceless no more

After nearly 3 years of being naked, blogging in front of thousands of faceless, frequently anonymous readers, watching this new version of Duke City Fix unfold is surreal.

It's like seeing after years of being blind.

It's like visiting a city you've only seen in postcards.

It's like finally meeting your internet lover.

As each new person decides to create a profile at this site (and there are over 140 of you… Continue

Eat Local: An Albuquerque Thanksgiving Menu

This Thanksgiving, I'm attempting to cook a feast with only the natural mojo available near Albuquerque.

It's a modified 100 mile Thanksgiving, adjusting for life in the high desert so bear with me while I include ingredients like potatoes from Southern Colorado and pecans from Las Cruces. Honestly, I'm not sure the ambitious menu below will even be edible with all my modifications,…

Chavez and the newfangled webcast thingie

Having ignored the earlier "blogger conference call" hosted a couple of weeks ago by Senate candidate Marty Chavez, I decided to log on to his webcast tonight at Marjorie was there from M-Pyre with the night's most pressing question about… Continue
