Comment by Hunter on November 29, 2012 at 8:45am My understanding is that the LRRI facility in question is pretty much 100% Federally funded but I haven't seen any concerns raised that their funding would be cut in any budget deal. Perhaps it's time to contact our Congressional delegation and suggest LRRI is a good place to start.
re:Lottery - what they need to do is to turn the lottery scholarship into a loan program - if you graduate and stay in-state, then, for every year you take out a loan, you get forgiveness of a year's worth of the loan. (If you take 5 years to graduate, then you're on the hook for a 5 year payback...). However, if you move to another state to work, then you need to pay back the amount (say, over a ten year time). This would hopefully prevent some of the brain-drain from our universities, and extend the life of the scholarship money.
Comment by once banned twice shy on November 29, 2012 at 4:07pm So anytime a conservative launches an EBT "investigation," it's time to be suspicious. I am extremely surprised to learn that the EBT card also acts as an ATM card. That seems odd on its face. But what I love the most about that story is the judgment that people with EBT cards shouldn't be shopping at Dillard's or Whole Foods. Get on over to WalMart and Savers, you poor people you!
