What's going on, Albuquerque?

When I see the stories on the same-sex marriage flood and the abortion ban, I can't help thinking "two steps forward, two steps back." Apparently we just can't move forward altogether.
Tucson is a pretty cool burg--don't be doubter, Phil!
Why do the news stories on the networks' websites read like they were written for a third grader? Is it because the people writing them have the writing skills of a third grader or because they think their public can't read anything with a higher comprehension level? Plus, don't they run that jetty jack story every year?
I spent 8 years in Tucson, about half of which were in my twenties. I enjoyed my time there, but would not necessarily feel comfortable calling it the #2 coolest city for twentysomethings in the US.
The powers-to-be need to set up ground rules for special elections - like, make sure the petitions are all in months ahead of the next general election, and that they don't violate existing state/national laws, for example. This petition is more like a bond question than an election to recall or elect an unfilled political seat.
The 20-something rating - well, Tucson is a great place to hike, bike, play outdoor games, take in scenery - but - look at that median wage - the joke is that you get paid in sunshine. However, Washington DC should switch places with Austin - drab government types vs hip young techies - and lots more music and Texas BBQ - Austin wins in my book (and Denver should be up higher, too!) ABQ is about right, though...
I think both Dems and Republicans (but especially the GOP) were worried that adding the abortion question to the general election would greatly boost turnout and impact the outcome of the Mayor's race and several council races. So they dragged their feet and now it has to be a special election. It'd be good to add rules that prevented that kind of maneuvering.
In my experience Tucson and Albuquerque are a lot alike. In fact for years after I moved back here I would head out on an errand only to realize that the place I had in mind was on Campbell or Grant rather than Montgomery or Menaul.
