• Things get just a little crazy at the City Council meeting.
  • But a strong majority in a new poll say they still have at least some confidence in Chief Gordon Eden. (I think this story says the same thing...maybe? Way to make sense of the numbers, guys).
  • Meanwhile, it's an Indian Market showdown up in Santa Fe. New indigenous market says it will give artists a bigger voice, be held at Railyard instead of Plaza.
  • Speaking of showdowns, ABQ cab companies are fighting hard to keep a new "ride share" service from coming here. Maybe they're just scared of a better product?
  • And speaking of markets at railyards, if you missed the first community Rail Yards Market in Barelas, it was awesome. Don't miss it next week!

The Rail Yard Market looks wonderful. I hope it does not keep people from going to the Downtown Growers Market on Saturday mornings.

Albuquerque cab companies have been trying to keep out competition forever.  Yes, they are definitely afraid it will be better.  The quote from the cab driver in the story is that Albuquerque isn't a cab city.  Well, yes and no.  I think more people would take cabs if they were a)cheaper and b)you didn't have to wait a year for one to pick you up.

ABQ Yellow Cab is awful. I called for a ride to the airport and was told I'd have a 5 to 20 minute wait. 30 minutes later, I called back and was told they'd momentarily shut down because of an "incident with police" but would be along in 5-10 minutes. 15 minutes later I took my own car. All this while they had my number and could have been updating me to any delays...

DCMc, I wondered about that too. But so far the Rail Yards event seems to be more focused on arts and crafts and prepared foods rather than produce, so maybe there's room for both. Several vendors appear to be doing both events.

I wish the city wouldn't destroy the 4th Street Mall, and instead focus on developing the Rail Yard.  Maybe it could be a destination for the Rail Runner and Amtrak....

Smart move to set up the alternative Indian Market at their railroad station - now they can tie into the Rail Runner, so folks from ABQ can take the train to the market, shop there and also downtown Santa Fe.
