What's going on, Albuquerque?
Re: Shen Yun - oh goodness I'm sick of their creepy spam-like PR. I got so many weird emails from them shucking dubious claims about how witnessing a single Shen Yun performance cured people of their depression. The emails raise so many red flags - signed "Cherry C. Lopez" when the email address is "qi.suhe-something-something."
Popejoy has the performance hidden deep within their calendar system, and even then post disclaimers about it not being a sanctioned event, merely something hosted in their venue.
And as for the food desert article, I love me some WalkScore. The results aren't really surprising, though; the proximity to grocery stores tracks pretty closely to overall population density:
I love this from the Coach Neal article: "It's worth noting however, that Coach Neal makes only $750,000..." (emphasis mine). Only $750,000. In New Mexico. Poor baby. Ye Gads.
One other thing about that Walk Score--it is based on being able to walk to the grocery in five minutes. That is a pretty daunting bar to satisfy and could only be satisfied in the largest, densest cities. I live in the most walkable neighborhood in town and couldn't get to the store in five minutes. 10? Yes. I consider that still quite walkable.
