What's going on, Albuquerque?

Ooo, ooo, I've got some ideas for quintessentially Albq. art:
--A giant police officer statue with many arms (like Kali or Ganesh) holding guns pointing them seemingly at everyone walking by
--a statue of a homeless person holding up a sign asking for money
--a sculpture of a house with a dirt yard and some cars parked on it
--a statue of Mayor Berry with his head stuck in the sand
--a giant ghost bike.
--a front porch with rust stains where the chairs use to be.
I had a couch stolen off my front porch in CA. The next week, I was sitting on the steps (no chairs of course) and the couch drove by strapped to the top of a van. Those stinkers. My neighbors used to rob my storage shed and then sell my stuff on the front lawn. Those were the days!
Dee, you should have put a 'FREE' sign on it then no one would take it because it's not worth anything. I you want something to disappear quickly put a 'FOR SALE'' sign on it.
Funny. The couch was crummy but not crummy enough I guess....
I love the idea of major public art downtown but it's not always a win.The other side of the building from the Big Blue Bear Denver got stuck with this piece courtesy of the then Mayor's wife:Then there's this piece that San Antonio got foisted off on them by Association of Mexican Businesspeople:and last but not least, the Devil Horse:I think there needs to be careful oversight of public art funds being spent, preferably by a committee including business, Govt (city) officers and citizens rather than just letting some schmoe write a check...
There is a thorough process for choosing public art in ABQ. http://www.cabq.gov/culturalservices/public-art
Just ask the families of two veterans killed in Vietnam who wanted them remembered with a sculpture in a park named for them at the Hispanic Cultural Center. Eventually the families' choice was included with the committee-chosen one. http://www.abqjournal.com/395556/news/cultural-center-to-feature-2-...
