Why would I put my phone in a bag of rice?

OBTS, you must not have ever dropped water on your phone or been out in a downpour with it.  When your phone gets soaked, a trick is to put it in rice b/c the rice will soak up the water and hopefully save the device.  It doesn't always work, but it sometimes does!

Since Liquidoff is water-based, I wouldn't apply it to anything sensitive to water contamination i.e. electronics.

The rice trick does work sometimes.  When we were selling our home we got a call early one morning for a showing and had to leave quickly.  We didn't have any plans so we went down to the Rio and walked around looking for tadpoles and frogs.  My phone fell out of my sweat pants into the Rio unbeknownst to me,  It was about a half hour before I noticed.  I found the phone submerged in the water, I pulled the battery and when I returned home put the phone in a bag of rice overnight.  Phone worked perfectly after.  No issues what so ever.
