Athletic hazing is a way of "toughing-up" the athlete so s/he can "bond" with the existing members, but also withstand the insults that they have to endure out on the playing field.  In this case, the soccer team went too far in trying to get their new members hyper-drunk - it's a new day as far as extreme hazing goes. (And that's a good thing...)

I read that male athletes insult other players with strength, speed, skill, etc... putdowns, while female athletes sling out sexual-orientated insults.  Maybe stripping in front of the teammates is a way of dealing with future sexual insults on the playing field.  (ie, point out all the "defects" now, before the opponent surprises her with the same insult on the playing field - not saying its right, but friendly razzing is a part of the game - but they got too out-of-control drunk...)

About that apartment complex party - it sounds like one big fraternity/sorority sanctioned by the university and supported by a private developer.  Win-win-win!

The two girls that left school were incoming freshman, twin sisters from CA. I wonder if they were on scholarship and what will happen to them now, returning home, defeated and probably embarrassed, all their plans out the window. I get the drinking thing in college- but this feels forced on innocent victims. I hope things work out for them.
