Speaking of rice, Talin was noticeably short on rice this weekend. Basmati, in particular, seems to be the focus of Albuquerque's food hoarders. I could only find 1 tiny bag for something like $7.

I think the linked article from the Rio Rancho paper was entirely about the Rio Metro transit district, not about Rio Rancho having its own independent transit.
There are more hearings scheduled this week for the Rio Metro Draft Transit Plan: 5 in Bernalillo County and one in Corrales. For Valencia county, there is one in Belen this week and one next week in Los Lunas.

@Michelle, that was my read as well, although the proposed tax would certainly bring some very positive changes to the Rio Rancho/Bernalillo area. It's embarrassing that the state's fourth-(third-?)largest city runs no buses of its own. Maybe getting them into some kind of regional plan will change that. However, it only seems fair that Rio Rancho taxpayers should pay the bulk of what it costs to bring any new transportation lines to that neck of the woods.

Incidentally, a visit to the Rio Metro link reveals that Sandoval County does, at last, provide *some* form of mass transit. The route maps are pretty poorly rendered and no schedule is available online, but it appears that it's now at least theoretically possible to get between Albuquerque and Jemez Springs, Cochiti Lake, Algodones, San Ysidro, Zia, Cochiti, Santa Ana and Jemez Pueblos, and other outlying communities without relying on a car. That's got to be some kind of progress.
