At ease Taos Mesa, that is a man's children you are talking about. I don't agree with this war either, but the "Fresh meat" comment is going too far. These are his kids, not meat.

If my children decided to join the Marine Corps or any other branch and some one made comments about them being fed to the grinder, well my reaction would not be very pretty.

I pray no harm comes to our service members and those innocents who are caught in the crossfire every day.

But even if your statements are true (like I said, I am against this war too), you should not have disrespected his kids like that.

Being against the war is fine, but being rude and basically saying that this man's kids are being feed to a meat grinder is not.

Hope you learn the difference!

James -- those look like great kids....young, bright and enthusiastic. Raised up right. I hope they have a good experience in the military. With any luck and a little rational leadership this mess in the middle east might subside and we won't need to be sending our kids over there. I know a lot of military guys who had great experiences and no regrets...but there is always the risk. But...there is some level of risk getting out of bed each day. Some sort of public service -- not just military service -- would be a good idea for all kids at a young age.

Woah! Just got back from seeing Napoleon off at the Sunport and look what happened! I certainly didn't intend to start an argument about the Iraq war, I'm just proud of my kids and wanted to crow. Since an argument did start, I can either delete this post or try to answer. First to to hacker, Jeremy, Chris, Mom, Derek and Sundog, thanks for the kind words and taking this post in the spirit it was meant and thanks for supporting my kids and their decision to enlist.

Second to Taos, it's certainly your right to have your opinion and voice it, but you could have done it at a more appropriate place than on my blog where I'm showing off my kids. Now my wife is really not happy with your comments and she isn't as nice as me (some moments she's Attila the Hun, next thing you know she's Atilla the Huns evil twin)(High five to the married guys). I disagree with your statements about the President and the war, I support both and believe it's the right thing to do and we have to be there doing it.

And lastly to Sarah and Sundog, thanks for your comments, they are great kids. They're both A students, football and track, youth groups at church and they were really born to do this as you can see by the picture below;

me and the wife...

That's me and the wife the year Napoleon was born.

Congratulations to you and good luck to your kids. My husband was a Marine....ooops, once a Marine, always a Marine....you can take the man out of the Corps but you can't take the Corps out of the man...and all that, and it's really true. And there really is something about a Marine. They have a certain resolve, determination, and steadfastness that I greatly admire. I was in the Army 20 yrs but I think my husband's service was just so much more dedicated. Not to incite any branch rivalries (unless they are friendly ones!), folks.

Congrats to all of you! They are in for some of the best times of their lives; military life is special, believe me--I'm a proud AF wife & Army mom.

Taos, dude, just breathe....
