The portable nuclear reactor... sounds like a winner. Straight out of the dream diary of Pete Domenici. Nothing like three legged babies to prove American industriousness.

But nuclear energy is so clean and good for the environment! We should all have one of these portable reactors in our homes!

Err, never mind the third eye. Or the protruding backbone. And don't worry about that rash, the green glow is perfectly normal...

That Alien campaign is a freaking JOKE. And i feel im qualified to say so. Not just because it's what I do for a living, but as someone who just recently transplanted here, I can tell you with all due certainty THAT campaign says absolutely nothing about why I should come to New Mexico. Not only that, but as someone who feels strongly that marketing in this day and age need to entertain as well as inform, that spot does nothing for me from a humor standpoint either. They clearly had the "f" team on this one.

I actually had the same question about what to do with the "battery" once it's depleted.

On another note, I wonder if the US is going to offer the undocumented man who saved that boy's life citizenship as a reward for his heroism.

So many questions, so few answers...

On the Alien Campaign, I have to comment. I've created advertising for over 30 years, (Levi's, Amorall, Nintendo, California Dancing Raisins...)I love New Mexico and I know, without a doubt, the alien print ads suck. Revolting. Amateur time. Haven't seen the TV so maybe it gets better. But again I ask, why Satachi? Hey-sus Maria! Why not use one of three highly accomplished New Mexico ad/design companies? Some one at higher level in NM government is painfully misguided.

Re the nuclear equipment - as I tell my friend who works in the nuclear energy industry - my concern isn't the technology - it's the human factor. We humans have an infinite capacity to screw up supposedly unsinkable, unbreakable fail-safe equipment and processes (The Titanic probably wouldn't have sunk if they design had been just a tad better. Challenge explosion is another example.)

As for the ad campaign - methinks M&C Saatchi took us (and treated us) as a bunch of rubes. I wrote a whole post dissecting this silliness. (And, why didn't we call on some of the highly creative people right here in NM?)

Here's the post: http://www.maryschmidt.com/2007/11/26/creative-or-effective/

I can hear em now... "We'll hire an outside consultant to tell us who we are and how we're supposed to look to the tourists... it'll be great".

Sounds like a bunch of clueless people sending money out of the local economy to hire a bunch of other clueless people to help our local economy, and patting themselves on the back when a few clueless younger people find the ad amusing on google.

I got an idea... why don't we create an ad campaign that represents our tourist industry officials, it could be a bunch of monkeys running in circles trying to find their own asses... it'll be a hit on youtube.
