Ask and ye shall receive!
Happily, my lament over poetry on the bus this spring
coincided with a renaissance of the City's competition - just announced for this summer
Oh how do you love this City? Let's count the ways - up to 50 words, that is.
Send up to 2
poems to the City by JULY 7
(revised deadline). As far as I know, there is no theme, so send your best shot on any topic. Remember, this is people's poetry. All of us can be poets!
Seattle's program regularly receives thousands
of submissions. And they don't even HAVE any famous poets! (Just kidding, Seattle...) So don't be shy, Burque. Puts those pens to paper and send in your thoughts...
An application can be downloaded here

Chantal, goddess that she is, just posted a manageable size PDF here
To prove anyone can do this, here's my submission from 2005:
Out on a Limb
We grow slow --
not quite like rock into sand
but slower than tumbleweeds
blowing away like seasons
down Albuquerque roads
we all avoid together.
We three branches on this
cultural tree --
our bark grows thicker
than our bite
when what we can sink our teeth into now
tastes like water from our entwined roots.
