Dear Staff for the Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Bureau,

This evening as I was watching KOAT news, I saw your departments' commercial about drivers looking out (twice) for motorcyclist. FANTASTIC!!!! Your team delivered the message powerfully. I thought it was visually quite influential. I hope that this commercial, and others like it (looking *AND* signaling before changing lanes!) will saturate all of the local network TV stations, airways, newspapers, billboards...everywhere.

Thank you for helping save the lives of my friends, family, as well as my own.

I am always happy when I hear or see these types of commercials - especially now that I am a new motorcycle rider! I don't think people realize now unsafe the roads can be when they are NOT on the lookout for other drivers and motorcyclists!

Nice to know that TV is catching up, but still don't assume that anyone sees you. Get positive eye contact with anyone you suspect will do something stupid. You may have to gesture wildly for those cell phone using motorists, though, or bang them on the door with your boot.

I saw that, too, and I think it's great. Now, lets see similar ads for looking out for pedestrians (NM number one in killing pedestrians with cars) and cyclists.

That commercial WAS awwwwwsome. It made me jump up and yell "Oh CRAP!!!"

What is it about motorcycles that makes them harder to see? And do those double headlights they have now help any?

Good commercial, but I doubt it will impact the morons out there who consistently fail to look for motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians. Being a new rider, I appreciate the D.O.T.'s efforts, of course, but if you ride, put all the lights you can on your machine. Maybe a few more of 'em will see you.

Sarah & Sophie: I *always* wear my "full-face" helmet and protective jacket. I am constantly amazed at how many riders, especially scooterist, cruising around sans helmet. Often in shorts & flip-flops! Spill & learn.

once banned twice shy: I agree! I would love to see more driver-awareness for pedestrians & cyclists. Any ideas?

I saw a small bike the other day with a blinking taillight. It was annoying, but it sure was visible.

Spartacus -- I've been a secret stickler for all of those things for a long time, but I never bring it up because, well, most people don't seem to care. But it makes me happy to see someone else who is ticked off by people turning into the far lane, etc. Thanks :)

And Freekboy is totally 100% correct. When on a scooter or bike I ALWAYS assume cars do not see me. And I almost always assume a car will run a stop sign or stop light and proceed in to intersections with supreme caution. Car vs bike would very likely be your last accident ever...

Freekbouy / SoyJames: So true. On a bike or in a car. Maybe the DOT can overhaul the driving test to include more awareness & higher penalties for accidents involving bi-peds/wheels.

Spartacus: Your #3 is my #1. Even scarier on a motorcycle.
