In the pursuit of learning and exploring this Duke City Fix system I really enjoy the setup and people on this site EXEPT!!! What the hell is with the profile section listed "What I'm listening to"? Not that thats the aspect I'm concerned with, but these people who drone on and on about the value and importance of there musical knowledge and there vast music collection which surpasses everyone else's . Sentences that start of with "To list my music collection would take years and would blow your mind, here are a few gem's". Blah! Blah! Blah!

Steps to reducing the size of your head is A. Just list a freaking band man! Or two, or three go crazy. B. Don't try and emphasize your life long plight in regards to your "Supposed" musical knowledge, as if it's this haunting burden of yours. And the most important step C. Just shut the hell up!! and heres a novel idea actually list the band your listening to like the freaking profile reads "What i am listening to"! And heres a thought if you Have songs listed as Christina Agulara, slipknot, or some emo fake punk crap. Sorry you have no musical taste or artistic vision. Just because you listened to one Miles Davis album, a symphony by Bach or Beethoven it doesn't make you any more cultured especially when the song that ensues after your supposed "Great playlist" is a garbage wanna be artist music that songs start up as "TIPSY, TIPSY" after a piece like Thelonious Monk. Its highly amusing. Heres to all those music experts who raise the bar so high for us inferior minded peasants.

S.A.S. - good catch re: solipsism.

I'm baffled by the assumption that "what I'm listening to" must be a music list? Myself, I like listing environmental noises, and I'm sure I'm not the only one...(or am I?)

I like listening to music - lots of it. All kinds - loud, soft, old, new, whatever my mood requires. Never considered myself a music snob, just a music lover. Sometimes I think some people should listen more and talk less.

Oh and lots and lots of Herb Alpert!

Rudolfo -
You're absolutely right.

Love John Cage. He was affiliated with my undergrad college for a time, plus several other like-minded souls. I hung out with the music grad students because they did such interesting things with sound and silence - as a Deaf woman, this was such a novel way for me to look at the absence of sound.

I still marvel at the thought of Cage, Rauschenberg, and Merce Cunningham collaborating. I would have loved to have been a fly on that wall.

But as long as we're naming musicians - I gotta add Brubeck to the list. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,...

There's a saying we use around my office..."sometimes it just helps to complain."
